The Mariners will be in Tampa to take on the Rays for the final game of the series on Thursday.
Chris Flexen is going for the M’s and there has been no announcement about the starter for the Rays.
Tampa is currently a small favorite at home here.
Seattle Mariners
The Mariners have played well to begin this season. I have liked what I have seen out of them.
Although they did not make the playoffs a year ago, they showed the kind of potential they have. They will look to put it all together this season and make some noise once the regular season is over.
Clearly, a big threat to them in the AL West is the Astros, but I feel like Seattle is ready for that. They believe that if they play their brand of baseball, they can win the division.
Another team for them to watch out for in their division is the Angels. They have not been great in past years but they are an improved team and I do not just see them fading this season.
When this team is on their game, I do like their chances in the AL. They may not be the best team, but they have solid pitching and a good lineup which is always very important to a club.
So far, Seattle has split the first two games with the Rays. They won the first game of the series by a score of 8-4 and lost the second one by a score of 3-2.
For an offense that is very capable, they did not show up in their last game. The pitching was solid but that does not matter when you only score 2 runs.
Getting the start in the rubber match is Chris Flexen who is 1-2 on the year with an ERA of 3.63. He was impressive for them in 2021 and will look to do more of the same this season.
Tampa Bay Rays
So far, the Rays have been an up and down team. They will look to get more consistent as the season moves along.
I do expect them to eventually get stronger and rattle off more wins in a row. They have taken good of players and a manager to trade wins and losses for the whole year.
Besides Wander Franco, they may not have a ton of household names, but that does not matter. More times than not, they seem to put together a good roster and are usually in the playoffs somehow.
The pitching might not be as deep in the starting rotation as it has been in past years but that has not seemed to matter much yet. I still do not trust everyone in that rotation so I would expect the bullpen to get used heavily once again this season. There is no question that the pen is a true strength for this club.
In terms of offense, I think they will be just fine this year. They have plenty of good bats and can mix and watch when needed. I would expect them to score plenty of runs in 2022.
This year’s Tampa team is not as talented as some other ones but I still expect them to compete with the Yankees and Blue Jays for the division. It is rare that a Rays team is not relevant.
In the win on Wednesday, Drew Rasmussen looked very sharp as he went 6 innings, did not allow an earned run and struck out 9 batters. He did a very good job against a tough lineup.
At this point, it is not official who the starter is on Wednesday. It is very possible that it ends up being an opener that is not out of the ordinary for them.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Mariners are 4-0 in their last 4 games overall.
- The Mariners are 7-2 in their last 9 games on astroturf.
- The Rays are 4-1 in their last 5 during game 3 of a series.
- The Rays are 12-4 in their last 16 Thursday games.
Seattle Mariners vs. Tampa Bay Rays MLB Prediction:
Even though the Rays do not have a definitive starter, I like their chances.
If they end up going for the opener route, I look for their relievers to be solid against this Seattle offense. It will be a tall task but they have the kind of stuff to do so.
Chris Flexen will not be easy to hit but Tampa has enough offense to be able to at least do enough against him. I could see the Rays winning a close one.
I like the Rays as a favorite at home.
