The Padres are just so much fun and they are winning too. I just wish some of their games started a little earlier so I could enjoy them more.
The opposite is true for Seattle. There is nothing interesting about this team right now. Sorry M’s fans, prove me wrong.
Seattle Mariners
Perhaps I was being too harsh above. Outfielder Kyle Smith is hitting .360 and looks like a piece the Mariners can build around. Ditto for Dylan Moore but he is going to be out til next month.
In the meantime, they are going to be hoping that Kyle Seager keep hitting well…so they can trade him for something that will help the team in the future. He has looked better this season than he has in a few.
Yusei Kikuchi has not made much of an impact stateside. The only improvement he has made from last year to this is that he has reduced his homers allowed. His walks and ERA are up though so I am not sure it is a positive tradeoff.
San Diego Padres
Even thought the Padres have been playing good ball they have suffered a couple of injuries that might be very costly. First Kirby Yates, their closer, is out for the season and how Drew Pomeranz, their next best reliever is going to miss some time.
That puts even more pressure on a lineup that has proven to be quite powerful but still looking to prove itself. Fernando Tatis Jr. is an exciting player for sure but his track record is short. The only sure thing in the SD lineup is Manny Machado. A good building block for sure.
The Padres invested in veterans to beef up their rotation this offseason and the acquisition of Garrett Richards has been pretty good. Thought just 1-1 he has given the Padres a great chance to win in four of his six starts this season. Keep an eye on the bullpen to see what emerges.
