Houston is sitting as a good size favorite with the total at 8.5.
Seattle Mariners
The Mariners started off the year pretty well but they have not been as great of late. They are going to have to get back on track.
After a strong season a year ago, a lot of people were pretty high on Seattle coming into this season, and for good reason. They certainly have the pieces to win their division and be a threat in the AL. Now, they just have to put it all together.
For a while now, it has been the Astros division and everyone else has been an afterthought. That is different this year as Houston is not looking as good as they have in past years and the M’s are more than capable.
Given that these two teams are the best in the AL West, these head-to-head games are going to be very critical and could decide the winner of it. Both clubs know how important they are.
The Mariners did not put on a good showing over the Marlins over the weekend and did not start off the series well with Houston as they got blanked 3-0. Tuesday is a good opportunity for them to get back on track.
Marco Gonzales went 6 innings and allowed 3 earned runs in the loss on Monday. He certainly put his team in a position to get the win but he did not get any run support from them.
Considering the Astros put Jake Odorizzi out there in game 1, Seattle should have been able to have much more success against him than they did. They really should not have allowed him to dominate as he did.
Chris Flexen will get the start on Tuesday and will look to put forth a strong effort. He does not have a great record but holds an ERA of 3.38.
Houston Astros
To me, it seems like the Astros are just kind of coasting through the season. There does not appear to be all that much urgency with them.
I know it is early in the season but they do not seem to be playing like the team we have become used to seeing for years now. They have looked good in bursts but the consistency has certainly not been there yet.
Even with their up-and-down play, you do not get the sense there is panic coming from their locker room. They have a veteran manager and a team that has been there before. They feel like they will be right in it when all is said and done.
Houston has had mixed results with the Mariners so far. They dropped two games out of three from them earlier on and are looking to win the series with them this week.
Even though Seattle was not a playoff team a year ago, they did give this group trouble at times. They certainly were not an easy out for the Stros and I expect that to remain the same this season.
As I mentioned earlier, Jake Odorizzi looked quite sharp for these guys on Monday. He went 6.2 innings and did not allow an earned run.
His strikeout numbers were not very high but he was still quite effective. It does not matter how you get outs, as long as you get them and are efficient.
Cristian Javier is the next man in the rotation. He has been both a reliever and starter in his career. Coming into this contest, he is 1-0 with an ERA of 1.35.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Mariners are 4-1 in their last 5 Tuesday games.
- The Mariners are 15-6 in their last 21 games against the AL West.
- The Astros in 4-0 in their last 4 games on grass.
- The Astros are 4-1 in their last 5 games as a favorite.
Seattle Mariners vs. Houston Astros MLB Prediction:
After the offense for the Mariners went to sleep in the opener I would expect them to be better on Tuesday.
In this spot, though, I still feel Houston has the advantage. They are the better team and I feel they will get the job done.
I could see this being a closer type of game and I cannot totally trust laying the runs with Houston here.
Give me Seattle getting the 1.5 here.
