San Francisco Giants
The Giants started their week by being swept away by the Washington Nationals. Three straight losses coupled with the Padres’ success against the Chicago Cubs and San Francisco is now even with San Diego, in last-place and 11.5 games back in the NL West.
Perhaps a weekend trip to the home of the NL’s worst team will help things.
Ty Blach starts game one in Philadelphia. He’s turned his poor start around rather abruptly, stringing together four straight starts of at least seven innings. All four starts have been quality ones; he’s averaged two runs allowed in each.
The lefty even threw seven shutout innings two starts before this little four-game run started so he’s retired at least 21 batters in five of his last six outings and has his ERA down to 3.83 with a WHIP of 1.18.
The last time Jerad Eickhoff took the mound, he helped the Phils end a long losing streak. He didn’t get the win and is, in fact, still winless on the season (0-5) but was effective over the first 5.1 innings.
He enters this start with his team on another four-game losing streak after Philadelphia lost the series finale to Cincinnati on Sunday and got swept by the Marlins Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Eickhoff’s numbers aren’t very good but they aren’t bad enough to warrant a winless season to this point. He’s got a 4.74 ERA with a 1.46 WHIP. His 51 strikeouts to just 19 walks isn’t bad, either.

Free San Francisco Giants vs. Philadelphia Phillies MLB Prediction: Eickhoff doesn’t get the win
I have Philadelphia as a -115 favorite with a total of 8.5, which pretty much mirrors the Vegas odds. As I write, I’m starting to lean a little more toward the Giants but nothing that changes much. All I’ll say is that Eickhoff doesn’t get the win.
4* Free MLB Betting Pick: No Action
No value here, though I do lean under the 8.5.
