The Giants will be taking on the Athletics from Oakland on Saturday evening.
Carlos Rodon will be facing Adam Oller in this contest.
San Francisco is a very big favorite on the road here. So far, there has not been a lot of movement with a total of 7.5.
San Francisco Giants
The Giants will look to get back on track in this two-game set with the Athletics, but nothing is certain with this team at this point in the year.
Their struggles with the Dodgers kept up this past week as they dropped all four games to their rival and really did not look great in any of them.
It is hard to have a ton of success against Los Angeles when a team plays them that often, but this group still expected to do better than what they have done so far. It just shows the different directions that those two clubs are headed in right now.
The pitching, which has not been the most reliable this season, did not look great in their last series and they allowed a total of 25 runs in those games. It is pretty hard to win games by doing that.
Neither Logan Webb, Alex Wood, or Jakob Junis put forth strong outings against the Dodgers. Of course, it is not all about the starters, but when they do not perform well, it can really bury a team.
In the third game of the series, Alex Cobb pitched well but had nothing to show for it because the offense did nothing. Overall, it was just a very bad series for this team and they would like to forget about it, but that is much easier said than done.
San Francisco would like to hope they can do some damage in this series given who they are facing. They are the better team in this spot, but I still would not call them automatic wins.
Carlos Rodon will be getting the ball in this game and he has mostly been good for the Giants. He is coming off a strong outing against the Cubs and will need to keep that up on Saturday.
Oakland Athletics
It has definitely been a very bad season for the A’s, but they have surprised some teams at times and will look to do so again when they host the Giants for this small series.
Before this, they took two of three against the Angels which did surprise some people. It is not as if the Halos are some great team but the idea of the Athletics winning a series is almost a foreign concept.
The offense did explode for them in the finale as they scored 8 runs but the series was really about their solid pitching as the other games were lower-scoring ones.
In their loss on Tuesday, the score was 3-1. It would have been nice to see them get some more offense, but they can build off the strong pitching they were able to get.
We knew this season was going to be a very down season for the Athletics and they currently sit with a record of 41-66 and they are 28.5 games out of first place. That is right around where folks had them coming into the year.
Of course, it is possible that this team can be relevant again, but it will still take some time before they get back to what they were. A team cannot just get rid of all that talent and all of a sudden expect to get back into the mix of the American League.
Adam Oller will start things off in this one and he has been rough this season. None of the numbers are all that great and there is no reason to feel they will improve as the season goes on.
He was not terrible in his last outing against the White Sox where he went 6.1 innings and allowed 4 earned runs. He will have to be very careful when he faces off with a lineup that could make him pay if he is not careful.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Giants are 5-0 in their last 5 interleague road games.
- The Giants are 5-2 in their last 7 vs. the AL West.
- The Athletics are 7-19 in their last 26 home games vs. a left-handed starter.
- The Athletics are 3-11 in their last 14 games following an off day.
San Francisco Giants vs. Oakland Athletics MLB Prediction:
The Giants looked quite bad in their most recent series, but I do see this as a good chance for them to get back on track a little bit.
Not only is San Francisco the better team, but they have the clear advantage in terms of starting pitcher and I feel that will really help them here.
If Rodon is on his game, he should be able to contain this offense and the Giants have the bats to do some damage off of Oller and that bullpen.
In this spot, I like SF laying the runs on the road.
