San Francisco Giants
After a very strong season last year, there were still some people that were skeptical of the Giants heading into this season. Would they be able to keep up that kind of play or was it just a fluke?
In regards to this season, there is still a long, long way to go before we have the answer to that question, but I would probably lean on the side of them being very good once again in 2022. Listen, I am not saying I had them playing as well or winning as many games as they did a year ago, but I was also not totally taken back by it.
This is a team that has a good manager, a solid lineup, and very good pitching. When you have those things going for you, the expectation is that you win more games than you lose.
San Francisco has certainly started off the year they wanted to as they come into New York with a record of 7-2. There is no question that the series with the Mets will be a big test for them early on, but it is certainly one they will not shy away from.
Before this series, they swept the Guardians in a three-game set in Cleveland over the weekend and did just what they had to do against a team they are a lot better than.
In the finale of their series on Sunday, they beat the Tribe by a score of 8-1, as they got on the board early and never looked back. Those are the kinds of things that you want to see out of a team no matter what part of the season they are in.
Alex Wood went 5 innings, did not allow an earned run, and struck out 5 batters in their last win. He did just what they could have asked him to do out there.
Alex Cobb will get the ball in game one and will look to keep this offense in check on Monday night at Citi Field.
New York Mets
The expectations for the 2022 Mets are extremely high and for very good reason. This is a team that has the pieces to win a championship and frankly, it would be a failure by them if they did not given the kind of money their owner threw around in the offseason.
I certainly feel they will be good this year and should make the playoffs, but I am not sold on them just coasting to the NL East Crown.
In their division, teams like the Braves and Phillies are more than capable and I expect them to be right in the thick of things when all is said and done. It should be a fun division to keep track of all season long.
One thing that should certainly concern Mets fans a bit is them fading. I am not necessarily saying it will happen, but let us not forget that they got off to a very hot start last season and some people thought it was a foregone conclusion they would win the East and they were not even close when the season was over. They have to show they can sustain success over a full 162.
Through their first 10 games, this team sits with a record of 7-3 and they are 1st in their division. In those games, they have taken care of some weaker clubs and they have also gotten some impressive victories.
New York is coming off winning two games out of three from the Arizona Diamondbacks. They did have a clunker on Saturday where the offense did not show up but they won the other games by scores of 10-3 and 5-0.
In the win over the Snakes on Sunday, David Peterson went 4.1 innings, did not allow an earned run, snd struck out 4 batters. After he left, the bullpen did exactly what they had to do.
Tylor Megill will get the ball on Monday and he will look to keep up his strong pitching. It is hard to be all that critical of him so far based on how he has pitched this year.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Giants are 5-0 SU in their last 5 games.
- The Giants are 6-1 SU in their last 7 games against the Mets.
- The Mets are 4-1 SU in their last 5 games.
- The Mets are 6-2 SU in their last 8 games at home.
San Francisco Giants vs. New York Mets MLB Prediction:
This is a contest between two very good teams in the NL. I feel it will make for a good game and series.
I could see this being a close one that is not decided until late, but I trust San Fran a little more here.
If they are on, Cobb and Megill can both be solid. When they go to the bullpen, that is where it could go interesting. I like the fact that I am getting runs with the Giants here.
Give me San Francisco at +1.5 in this one.
