The Giants and Dodgers will be wrapping up their series on Wednesday, May 4th.
The first pitch is set for 10:10 ET at Dodger Stadium.
Alex Wood is going for San Francisco and it is not official who the Los Angeles starter is going to be.
San Francisco Giants
The Giants have played some solid baseball so far this season. In most games, they have put a good product on display.
After a very strong season a year ago where they won over 100 games and won the NL West, people still wondered if that was a fluke. There were certainly some questions as to whether they would be playing on a similar level in 2022.
Of course, being able to repeat what they did in 2021 will be awfully challenging but I still feel this club can have a very strong season and will be in the thick of things.
As we know, the division they play in is a very tough and competitive one, so not being in the first place when the season is over is not necessarily a bad thing. It is possible there will be three teams from the West in the postseason.
Just like we saw last year, these head-to-head games between the Dodgers and Giants are so critical. It is early but these divisional games in May are the ones that could potentially have an impact down the road.
San Francisco certainly has a balanced lineup that has a very good approach when they are in the box but they were absent on that side of the ball in the Tuesday loss. Granted, they did face a very good arm in Urias but it would have been a good sign for them to do a little more than they did.
Carlos Rodon looked sharp in game 1 but did not get a lot of support. The lefty went 6 innings and allowed 2 earned runs in the 3-1 loss.
Alex Wood is the next guy in the rotation and he will have a tall task of keeping this lineup in check. He has a 2-1 record with an ERA of 4.19.
Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers have done what everyone thought they would do this season: win often.
I know a team like the Yankees is on fire right now but to me, this is the best and most complete team in baseball. I feel they match up well with anyone and it is pretty hard to envision them doing any sort of consistent losing this year.
Even with the kind of talent they have on both sides of the field, nothing in the NL West is guaranteed. The Giants and the Padres are more than capable teams and I would expect them to be in the race for the whole season.
The only knock on this crew in the early going is them letting a few games slip away from the Diamondbacks. Given the talent disparity in that matchup, they should have at a minimum won the series and certainly not dropped two of three.
Besides that little hiccup, it is hard to be all that critical of what they have done so far. They have beaten a variety of different teams and there is no squad out there that I feel has a clear advantage over them.
Los Angeles started off this mini-series with their archrival just the way they wanted to. LA can mash with anyone but they also have a very good ability at winning the close, low-scoring affairs and that was put on display in their victory on Tuesday.
Julio Urias delivered 6 innings and did not allow an earned run. This guy seems like he is getting back into the form that made him one of the better starters in the sport.
As of right now, we still do not know who will be starting this ball game for the Dodgers. I have heard that Tony Gonsolin could open things up and then it would turn into a bullpen game.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The total has gone over in 4 of San Francisco’s last 6 games.
- The Giants are 1-4 SU in their last 5 games.
- The total has gone under in 6 of LA’s last 7 games.
- The Dodgers are 14-5 SU in their last 19 games.
San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers MLB Prediction:
You have two of the best teams in baseball going at it. Once again, I see it being a competitive game.
San Francisco has to get more production from their offense than they did in the first game and I feel they can. It is very rare that a lineup of this caliber gets silenced again, even when facing a pitching staff such as the Dodgers.
Alex Wood may not be great here but I do feel he can keep his team in the game. It would not shock me if LA won but I feel SF can keep it within the 1.5.
Give me the Giants on the run line.
