The Giants are hanging in there. I am still not a believer but who knows with the shortened season and expanded playoffs.
After last year’s grand disappointment the Rockies are looking pretty good early. When this team can find pitching it competes.
San Francisco Giants
No matter what happens on Sunday the Giants are going to be .500 at worst.
Their offense has not been as ba as expected but I expect that to eventually slide. Evan Longoria has looked good since coming back from injury but the rest of their veteran bats are not giving them much. Guys like Pablo Sandoval, Hunter Pence and Brandon Belt.
They need more from that trio.
The Giants do not have an ace so the fact that they do not have a starter listed at the moment probably does not matter much. All of the guys they are using have some warts on them, either over the hill, injuries or never quite lived up to expectations.
There is no pitcher they can throw out there that would make think they should be a road favourite at Coors.
Colorado Rockies
The Rox are 6-2 coming into this one. It is hard to find much fault with that. The upside is that the offense has been average at best. Nolan Arenado has been dazzling in the field but he has yet to register even one extra base hit.
Once he finally gets going the lineup will be that much better. Matt Kemp is not playing every day but he might still have something left in the tank.
The Colorado pitching has been really good save Wade Davis, the closer. His numbers are skewed by small sample size but they have been trending in the wrong direction for a couple of seasons now.
The starting pitching has been really good and it would be a shame if the bullpen can’t hold the leads. Chi Chi Gonzalez is going to get the start in this spot. It is his first outing of the season.
