San Francisco Giants
As this is being written on Wednesday these teams are tied for last in the NL Central. That is where I thought the Giants would be but the Rockies are a surprise. San Fran took the opener of the series with a rare offensive explosion, scoring 14 runs. Any success they have is going to be dependent on more performances like that. Kevin Pillar, who started the season with the Jays leads the team in homers and RBIs.

Dereck Rodriguez, despite being the son of a hall of famer was not a top prospect. He burst onto the scene last year and pitched really well but the results have not really been there this season. He has given up 14 runs in his last eight innings and is now entering Coors Field. The Giants have had a top ten bullpen so far this season. Will Smith is a good closer.
Colorado Rockies
The Rox have been terribly inconsistent this season. The offense has yet to spark and the pitching has been well below expectations. One good thing is that Nolar Arenado seems to have come around. He got the big extension and when you struggle out of the game after something like that you wonder if that is the reason. He is where he should be in terms of leading the team in homers. RBIs and average. Which is a start.

Kyle Freeland won 17 games last year and this year he has just two, more concerning if that his ERA has more than doubled and he has been a disaster at home. His numbers from last year showed that a regression was likely but not to this extent. He usually gets better as the season warms up but still. The Rockies bullpen has been just OK. They have the second lowest K rate though.
