San Francisco Giants
The Giants have played pretty good baseball so far but it certainly is not on the elite level like it was a year ago. They still have a long way to go to get there.
As we all know, being able to repeat or have even better results than last year is not going to be easy for them. When fans saw them win all that many games and win the division, they wanted to see it again in 2022 but that just might not be reasonable.
Listen, I still feel this is a good team and they will be in the mix. What I am not sold on is them being a true threat and championship contender.
Forget the rest of the National League, their own division is brutal. Right now, I think it is fair to say the Padres and Dodgers are better than them and it is very likely those two finish ahead of San Francisco by the end of the year.
What those clubs have that the Giants do not have is the overall firepower on their team. It is not all based on just talent but there is no question that they have more of it and would present issues for them come postseason time.
After winning game 1 on Friday, San Fran dropped the next two games to the Cardinals and did not look in either of them. The icing on the cake came on Sunday when they got smoked by a score of 15-6. That was just an awful look for them and it does make you question this team a little bit.
Carlos Rodon went 3.2 innings, gave up 10 hits, and allowed 8 earned runs on Sunday. That is not the kind of outing that should come from one of your better guys and he needs to be held accountable.
The Giants will turn to Alex Wood in this one and he really needs to get them back on track. The lefty has been ok this season but does not appear to have found a groove yet.
Colorado Rockies
The Rockies surprised some folks with their play early on but it does appear they have come back down to Earth as of late. That was inevitable, though.
It is certainly fair to say that this team has improved and they have some better players now but it was not realistic to expect them to keep up that pace. As we all know, never read too deep into a baseball season start.
Ultimately, I think they will end up as a middling squad who is better than they were in past years but still a ways away from the ultimate goal. Clearly, that is not an ideal place for a sports team.
What you have seen recently is a team that has its flaws and they are catching up to them. They have a lot of areas in which they need to improve their ball club and a lot of those deficiencies have been exposed by other teams.
A prime example of that is what happened this past weekend. Losing two of three to the Royals? Really?
In those games, it is also important how they lost because they were not just 2-1 defeats. In those three games, they allowed 26 runs to a team that is very mediocre. Well, even teams that are not any good can expose pitching that is just as bad.
It has been clear as day for a while now that the Colorado pitching is a weakness of theirs and they have to improve. If not, it will be more of the same for years to come for them.
Antonio Senzatala will get the ball here and he will have his hands full. He has not always enjoyed facing San Francisco, so we shall see what happens.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Giants are 6-0 in their last 6 games with the total set at 11.0 or higher.
- The Giants are 5-1 in their last 6 Monday games.
- The Rockies are 1-4 in their last 5 games following a loss.
- The Rockies are 1-6 in their last 7 games overall.
San Francisco Giants vs. Colorado Rockies MLB Prediction:
The Giants were not very impressive in their most recent series and really have to get back on track. This game here is a good chance for them to do so.
San Francisco has the clear starter advantage, and lineup advantage, and is just the better overall team. This is one where they need to make hay and I feel they will.
I look for them to get to Senzatela early and often and not look back. Wood might not be great but I feel he will do enough to get his club the win.
Giants on the run line is my play.
