The Giants and Braves will be ending their series on Thursday afternoon.
As of now, Atlanta is laying a good size price at home with the total sitting at 9.5. It opened at 9 and has ticked up half a run.
Alex Wood and Kyle Wright are the slated starters in this ball game.
San Francisco Giants
As of right now, the Giants are a team that I really like and I am quite high on this group. I know it seems so simple to say, but they do just do a lot well.
Look, we all know they are not going to win as many games as they did a year ago, but they can still be very good when all is said and done. What they did in 2021 was truly magical and it is not reasonable to expect them to do that every season.
When I see them play, I see a team that is very balanced. I like the rotation and bullpen and the offense is also quite solid. If they can stay healthy, then I would expect their high level of play to keep up as the season goes on.
The one area of their game that I would have to critique would be their defense. It does not make a lot of sense for a team like this to not be great on that side of the field, but they simply have not been consistent enough there and it has cost them.
You will often hear people say that a pitcher is better than numbers might say and that is the case for some guys on this roster. The defense has let some starters and relievers down multiple times this season, which is why there is a pretty significant difference between their ERA and FIP.
San Francisco has now dropped two of three from the Braves and will have to at least get the split on Thursday. I get they are facing the defending champs, but winning just one game in this series would not be good enough.
In their loss in game 3, Carlos Rodon went 7 innings, allowed 1 earned run, and struck out 10 batters. However, the bullpen did not do its job, which allowed Atlanta to get the 4-3 victory.
Getting the ball in the last game of the series is Alex Wood and I do feel he could be pitching a lot better right now. To me, he has just been too up-and-down and that will have to change if his team is going to make a true deep run.
Atlanta Braves
The Braves continue to be one of the hottest teams in baseball and they look like they are getting back to where they want to be.
After winning the World Series a year ago, this is a team that did not start off how they would have liked, but you knew it was only a matter of time before they found it.
Yes, a big part of their turnaround was because they were facing a lot of bad teams, but as we know, that does not just guarantee wins. Teams still have to go out there and get the job done and that is what they did.
This series with the Giants has definitely not been a layup series and I have been impressed by what Atlanta has been able to do so far. Game 2 is one they would like to have back, but their level of play has still been high in this series.
If the Bravos were able to win on Thursday and take three of four, that would be a big statement from them. It is not too often that a team can do that against San Francisco.
Charlie Morton looked excellent in their win on Thursday and that is huge for this group. We all know what he’s capable of, but the veteran has been a bit shaky this season and it was important that he got back on track.
Kyle Wright is next in the rotation and he will look to follow what Morton did. This is a guy who has looked sharp this season and he is trying to make this the year that he puts it all together.
Of course, Atlanta can only focus on this game for now, but it does not get any easier for them starting on Friday when they host the Dodgers. It will certainly be a big challenge for them, but it should be one they are ready for and are embracing.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Giants are 6-1 in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning record.
- The Giants are 0-5 in their last 5 Thursday games.
- The Braves are 7-0 in their last 7 home games vs. a left-handed starter.
- The Braves are 8-1 in their last 9 home games.
San Francisco Giants vs. Atlanta Braves MLB Prediction:
The Giants have dropped two of three games in this series, but they have been able to keep things close and I see them doing so again here.
I am not totally sold on Wood here, but I expect his team to get a little proudction off of Wright, although that would be challenging.
My lean would be that Atlanta wins, but the runs are too many for me to lay with them.
My play is on the Giants at +1.5.
