San Diego Padres
The Padres took the series opener 6-3, pushing their winning streak to 4 coming into Saturday action. They got three homers in the game and this team is surprisingly in the top half of the Majors in that category even though they are not getting much from the guys they would like. San Diego has a young starting staff. Joey Lucchesi was last year’s breakout for the rotation and he struck out 11 Jays on Friday. Chris Paddack is that guy this season and they are looking for the same in this one. He has been phenomenal this season. Not as effective on the road but still very playable. Kirby Yates looks like the best closer in the game.
Toronto Blue Jays
The Jays are fiddling with the roster, trying to improve for the future and be more relevant today. The most recent changes were bringing Lourdes Gurriel back up and giving Cavan Biggio a chance to follow in his Hall of Fame dad’s footsteps. These are two promising players who the Jays like a lot. There is potential there and the Jays really need a shot in the arm on offense from somewhere.

Marcus Stroman is having an interesting season. His record is terrible, 2-6, but all of his other metrics are solid. He is walking more batters than you would like but he is so good at inducing ground balls that he often gets out of trouble. At home he is sharper even though he gives up more homers at the Rogers Centre. Getting run support has been a challenge all season.
