The Padres will be in San Francisco on Saturday afternoon to take on the Giants.
Joe Musgrove and Carlos Rodon are the two starters in this one.
San Francisco is laying a decent price at home and the total is set at 7 runs for the moment.
San Diego Padres
The Padres have been an impressive team so far. It is pretty hard to dispute that one.
Other teams might be getting talked about more but this team seems like they are legit and look to be a true threat in the NL. It should be fun to watch them for the remainder of the year.
The way that San Diego is playing now is how they expected to play last year. With the kind of players they have on this roster, playing at this level is certainly no fluke.
With a record of 25-14, they are 2nd in the NL West and trail the Dodgers by 1.5 games. It will be interesting to see those two teams battle it out all season long.
Another reason why this group has optimism for this season is they do not even have their best player and one of the best players in the world back and healthy. Once Tatis gets back in the lineup on a regular basis, they feel like they will be even more dangerous.
Clearly, San Diego knows the importance of this series with the Giants because they also cannot be taken lightly in the division. San Francisco only trails 1st place by 4 games.
The Friars were able to get the 8-7 win on Friday. The game did require extra innings but they got the job done when it mattered most.
Sean Manaea went 6 innings and allowed 4 earned runs in their win on Friday. Since being with his new team, this guy has been impressive. Now, they will turn to Joe Musgrove, who has not lost a game and holds an ERA of 2.20.
San Francisco Giants
The Giants have played solid ball this season but it has not been anything that jumps off the screen. I still feel like their best baseball is yet to come.
After being as dominant in the regular season as they were ago, they clearly are not at the level this season. Realistically, it would be hard to get back to that exact level but it would be nice to see them be somewhere near that.
Of course, they have not been terrible but they have also not been spectacular. Frankly, it has been a very average brand of baseball for the most part and that is certainly not how they intended to start.
The tools for this these guys to be a top team in the NL are there but they have to put it all together. To me, it just seems like they are coasting through the season and they cannot afford to do so when they play in a division as tight as this one.
A key that they have to focus on going forward is consistency. That has not exactly been a word to describe them in 2022 and it will have to change if they wish to make all that much of their year.
People often talk about their head-to-head games with the Dodgers being so important but the same is true for the games with the Padres. San Diego is a legit threat and certainly will be competing for the division the whole year.
Jakob Junis went 6 innings and allowed 4 earned runs in their loss on Friday. He certainly gave his team a chance to win but it still was not enough when all was said and done.
Carlos Rodon will be on the hill in this one and he needs to show why they went out there and got him. He will have his hands full with this lineup but it is one he should embrace.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Padres are 5-0 in their last 5 games vs. a left-handed starter.
- The Padres are 2-5 in their last 7 games following a win.
- The Giants are 5-1 in their last 6 games.
- The Giants are 42-17 in their last 59 games vs. the NL West.
San Diego Padres vs. SF Giants MLB Prediction:
San Francisco did not start off the series they wanted to but they feel like they have a very good chance here with Rodon on the mound.
Although he got tagged by the Cardinals, he still has been quite impressive this season and certainly has the capability of being effective in this one.
Musgrove has also been impressive this season even without getting a ton of attention. I look for him to be sharp as well but for the Giants to do enough to him and that bullpen.
It is a little more juice than I typically like but Giants ML is the play for me.
