With the result through Tuesday evening the Padres find themselves tied with Los Angeles. With the Rockies playing well too this division might be the most interesting.
I love the fighting spirit of the Padres right now. It is just too bad there are no fans in the stands.
San Diego Padres
With Fernando Tatis helping them push the big bad Dodgers the Padres might be the best story going in MLB right now. Tatis, even on a losing team might be a hell of a story.
San Diego is competing though because they have quickly become more than just Tatis. They are actually second in the Majors in homers thanks to guys like Manny Machado and Will Myers.
Coming into the season it looked like Chris Paddack was the ace of the staff. He has pitched well and the fact that Dinelson Lamet has passed him just makes this team more interesting.
Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers do not need to worry much but the fact that the Padres came into Dodger Stadium and took the first couple of games of this series is somewhat disconcerting.
Corey Seager is still experiencing some discomfort but even if he is healthy that would be the one position on the field where the Dodgers do not have an advantage. Everywhere else they need to show it. Mookie Betts might be heating up which is promising.
Clayton Kershaw might just be a five inning pitcher now. That means you can still win with him but there is not the value there once was. His homers have been on the rise of late.

Kershaw will still command market attention though so I see this one as a buying opportunity. Look for Paddack to be just as good if not better and for the offense to back him up sufficiently. Kirby Yates has been improving in the pen too.
