The Padres have a great chance to put a dent in a 4 game deficit in the West when they meet up with the Dodgers for a 2-game series starting Tuesday. It’s not going to be easy though as LA sends Clayton Kershaw to the hill in game one.

The Padres dropped 2 of 3 vs. the Rockies over the weekend giving up 25 to Colorado over the three game series at Coors Field. San Diego did manage 13 runs of their own, but that isn’t a whole lot in the Denver atmosphere.
The Padres get a crack at Kershaw on Tuesday, trying to improve on a collective .213 BA in 108 AB. Manny Machado has one hit off Kershaw in 3AB – a home run. Franmil Reyes has also gone 3-6 vs. the LA lefty, hitting a HR and 2B.

Tuesday’s O/U is just 7, meaning San Diego starter Chris Paddack shouldn’t expect a whole lot of run support. The good thing is the rookie hasn’t needed support though, striking out 11 Mets batters in 7-2/3 scoreless IP last time out to drop his ERA to 1.55 on the year.
Los Angeles Dodgers
The rest of the pack is staying relatively in the hunt in the West as LA has gone 7-3 over their last 10 but is still just 4 games up on San Diego and Arizona.
The Dodgers just split a 4-game series vs. Washington, with their top 10 scoring offense being held to 2 and 0 runs in the two defeats. This will be the first time any LA batter has seen the Padres phenom Paddack.

Kershaw has a career ERA under 2 with an 18-6 record in his career vs. San Diego. He did give up HR to Machado and Ian Kinsler when the teams met a little over a week ago. Kershaw has given up 7ER in his last two starts, which does give San Diego hope.
