San Diego Padres
Game two will follow the first game, set to begin at 1:10, of Wednesday’s doubleheader.
MacKenzie Gore will get the start for San Diego. The third overall pick in the 2017 draft has been terrific in the early start to his big league career.
The hard-throwing left-hander has not been defeated in three starts, going 15.1 innings and giving up a total of three runs.

Gore has increased his strikeout totals each time out as Manager Bob Melvin has increased his pitch count. He struck out ten the last time out, his second consecutive win, and broke the 100-pitch mark for the first time as a Padre.
This will be the final day of San Diego’s eight-game road trip. It has lost just once so far after sweeping Cleveland and taking two out of three against the Pirates.
The Marlins and then the Cubs await the Padres back at home after they play the doubleheader on Wednesday.
Cleveland Guardians
Cleveland’s return home was postponed a day due to rain on Tuesday.
The Guardians have been on the road since April 22. The trip did not start out well with seven consecutive losses in New York and Los Angeles.
They did salvage the final three in Oakland to finish on a high note.
Tuesday’s scheduled starters will start game one of the doubleheader with Wednesday’s scheduled to start the nightcap.
That means Cal Quantrill, 27-year-old son of former relief pitcher Paul, will make the start against the team that drafted him in the first round six years ago.
Quantrill came over to Cleveland in August of 2020 in the deal that sent Mike Clevinger to San Diego.
So far, the Guardians have to be pleased with what they acquired in Quantrill. He finished 8–3 with a 150 ERA+ in just about 150 innings pitched a season ago.
This season he has logged 22 innings in four starts with an ERA+ of 112. He has as many walks as strikeouts but has managed to limit hits and keep the ball in the ballpark with the exception of one long ball against the Yankees.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- Padres are 8-1 in their last 9 games as a favorite.
- Over is 6-1 in Padres last 7 overall.

- Head to Head: Under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
San Diego Padres vs. Cleveland Guardians MLB Prediction:
Cleveland looks good on the runline here. It may have a tough time with Gore because the scouting report is so thin and the young kid’s stuff is so good.
But Quantrill can keep the Padres down too and Cleveland may just be able to win a battle of the bullpens at home.
The Guards offer some value on the moneyline but in a game with such a low total the extra run-and-a-half offers even more value than usual.
So take the +1.5 and roll with Cleveland in game two of Wednesday’s doubleheader.
