The Padres will be on the road to start a series with the Reds on Tuesday, April 26th.
Joe Musgrove is scheduled to go for the Padres and Reiver Sanmartin is going for the Reds.
In this one, San Diego is a considerate road favorite with a total sitting at 8 flat.
San Diego Padres
For the most part, I have been pleased with the way the Padres have played. I definitely think they can sustain a high level of play during the season.
After a disastrous 2021 season where they totally collapsed, it is imperative that they rebound and play much better this season. Given the kind of ball club they have, it would be a total disgrace to have similar results this season as they did a year ago.
If this team is going to make some noise in the National League, it sure as hell is not going to come easy. For starters, they play in a division that is very competitive and now it looks like the Rockies might have something cooking.
Not to mention, there are other teams in the NL outside of the West that are very good, such as the Mets, Braves, and Brewers to name a few. Even if this team reaches its full potential, I am not sure they are on the same level as some of those squads.
I still have a lot of questions regarding their pitching and I am not sold they will be able to hold up in that area for the whole year. Sure, there are some decent arms but there is really nobody that strikes fear into the opposing lineup.
The aforementioned LA Dodgers took two games out of three from the Friars over the weekend and they totally hammered them on Sunday by a score of 10-2. The Dodgers are one of those teams where the game can be close for a bit and all of a sudden, they score five runs in a blink of an eye.
Sean Manaea got a taste of what it is like to face the big dogs on Sunday as he got hit pretty damn hard. His final stat line was as follows: 4.1 IP, 6H, 6ER, and 5 BB. When going up against that caliber of team, that kind of outing is not acceptable for a team that is supposed to be fighting for a division crown.
Joe Musgrove has been good this year and he will look to keep that up when he faces off with this Reds team. Against Cincinnati, he cannot fool around and just has to go after those guys.
Cincinnati Reds
Boy has it been a bad start for the Reds. It is hard to think of a start that could be all that worse.
Going into the season, nobody really had all that high of expectations for these guys, so this is not totally surprising, but this is taking it to another level. 3-13? Really?
I am not saying this is the most talented team out there but it is not as if they have nobody on their roster. It is totally reasonable to feel they ought to have a better record than what they do at the moment.
When you look at their schedule, they have really struggled in a lot of categories. The pitching has not been great and the offense has been nothing to write home about, either. When you combine those things, oftentimes lots of winning does not take place.
This is a team that has already faced the Padres this season and did not have much success. They will hope this time around is different but there are certainly no guarantees of that one happening.
Cincinnati dropped two games out of three against the Cardinals over the weekend. They did win the last game of the series on Sunday by a score of 4-1 but it still was not a very impressive showing in the three games.
In the win on Sunday, Nick Lodolo went 5.2 innings and allowed 1 earned run. That is definitely encouraging news for a team that has not had much positivity to report this season.
Cincy will turn to Reiver Sanmartin on Tuesday evening and he will have to be much better than what he has demonstrated so far. He comes into this game with a record of 0-2 and an inflated ERA north of 7.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Padres are 4-1 in their last 5 games after scoring 2 runs or less in the previous game.
- The Padres are 4-1 in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.
- The Reds are 17-35 in their last 52 games overall.
- The Reds are 10-25 in their last 35 Tuesday games.
San Diego Padres vs. Cincinnati Reds MLB Prediction:
This is what I call a get-right series for the Padres. They really have to be able to get the job done against a team like this.
I look for Musgrove to keep up his solid pitching and for the San Diego offense to hit around Sanmartin pretty well. It might not look too good for the home team when all is said and done.
I just have a hard time picturing this game being all that close when the final out is recorded.
Padres on the run line is the play for me.
