Pittsburgh Pirates
The Bucs had a rough weekend, losing all three to the Dodgers and having their pitching roughed up. This series starts on Monday but they are hoping to get back on track and stay in the race in the NL Central. Josh Bell did not hit any homers over the weekend but he still has one of the hottest bats in the Majors – hitting .339. Essentially they need a lot more from everyone else if they want to have more consistent offense.

Jordan Lyles got a win against Colorado in his last start but it was his worst outing of the season – 6ER. You can’t pin it on Coors Field either because the game was at home. On the road he has an ERA under 2 though so you can feel mostly comfortable with him in this spot. The Pittsburgh bullpen has been pretty sharp all season but last week they got hit.
Cincinnati Reds
The Reds score 22 runs at the Cubs over the weekend and seem to be getting their offense in gear. Joey Votto had seven hits over the weekend but the power stroke hasn’t come yet. They are hitting him in the #2 spot behind rookie Nick Senzel. I wonder if they should flip them. Senzel is an exciting player that you can see a big future for and he can push Cincy forward.

Cincinnati has their ace Luis Castillo going for them to start the week. He is usually followed by Anthony Desclafani but he has not been confirmed yet. Not sure why but the Reds have been 6-4 in his starts, however, that included a 5-1 record on the road. Cincy’s bullpen has not been great late, their ERA is close to six over the last week. A couple of runs higher than what they have posted on the season.
