Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates got Tuesday off after a 10–0 drubbing on Monday. They will play on Wednesday and finish up the series on Thursday with Joe Musgrove on the bump.
He sure looked good in his last start against the Reds. He struck out eight batters in seven shutout innings, getting swings over the slider in the dirt over and over.

That was his first start of 2019. He came out of the bullpen and threw two perfect innings to earn a hold on March 31.
Meanwhile, Jameson Taillon left his start on Monday. I wrote earlier that it was just Jon Lester who left his start early on that day but apparently Taillon hurt his head. He’s listed on Pittsburgh’s growing injury report, though it’s not yet known whether he’ll miss time or be fine to start this weekend.
Chicago Cubs
At one time, Jose Quintana had one of the most desirable contracts in the game, a six-year deal that paid him just over $6 million per year. For an upper-echelon starting pitcher in his 20s, that’s a bargain.
But Quintana has regressed and he’s proven to be little more than an average arm now at age 30. He finished with an ERA+ just over 100 a season ago and has been hit hard in two starts this year.

He didn’t allow a run in four innings against Texas to begin the season but had to constantly pitch out of trouble, having given up five hits and three walks.
In Milwaukee last week it was different. Quintana gave up eight hits and three walks in three innings. Eight of those baserunners came around to score. He’ll enter this game with an ERA over 10.
