The Pirates got an early lead on Friday, gave it up and then took the lead again late in what turned out to be for the final time. They held off the Braves’ rally in the ninth to win the first game of a three-game weekend set, 3–2.

The outfield continues to rake, Dickerson, Marte and Polanco all in the midst of pretty good seasons. Dickerson has been especially great hitting for average and some power.
Ivan Nova isn’t overpowering but he should be able to limit Atlanta well enough on Sunday. If Pittsburgh can work Julio Teheran’s pitch count up and get into the bullpen, it will give itself the best possible chance.
Atlanta Braves
The Braves’ offense just isn’t good these days. Ronald Acuna Jr’s hot streak is over (though he did homer again on Friday night) and Ozzie Albies continues to struggle.
Those were the two guys that made the Braves exciting for so long this season and without them making plays, Atlanta just doesn’t have the firepower that the pitching needs.

That’s because while the starters have been good, the bullpen just isn’t in a good state. It gave up the game-winning hit in the eighth inning on Friday night against Pittsburgh.
It just feels like this team is going to come up a bit short. It can still hold on to make the playoffs, but it’s going to have to work hard to hold off the Phillies. What’s remaining won’t be a team that’s ready to play its best baseball in time for the playoffs.
