Philadelphia Phillies
Philly is coming off a bad weekend at Atlanta. They dropped two of three ans sunk to second place in the NL East and their pitching was hammered, yielding 29 runs over three games. Jay Bruce, who has been a monster since being acquired is nursing a hamstring and might not play in this one. The pitching may have been a problem this weekend but the lineup has underwhelmed all season long.

Jake Arrieta was not great for Philly last season and things have gotten worse this year. He has seen increases across the board in hit rate, walk rate and home rate and since he is not putting hitters away the way he did in his prime it is very concerning. He has faced the Nats once this season and was solid but not spectacular. That is pretty much all you can expect these days. The bullpen is rough shape due to injuries.
Washington Nationals
Washington split their four game series with Arizona as they still struggle with putting together results to get back into the race in the NL East. Trade rumours are really swirling with this club and you have to wonder when they pull the chute on something big just because it makes sense. Surprisingly veteran Howie Kendrick is having a renaissance. Hitting over .300 and second on the team in homers and RBIs.

Not sure why the Nats have not confirmed Patrick Corbin as the starter for Monday. It is his spot in the rotation and he has mostly good in his first season with Washington. The Nats are just 7-7 in his starts, but that is 4-2 at home where all of his numbers are better. The bullpen might be getting better, a little, but they are still the weakness of the team.
