Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies stayed hot and won Game 1 in Houston, 6–5, in ten innings.
JT Realmuto homered off of Luis Garcia in the tenth to edge the Phillies ahead. David Robertson gave up a hit and a walk in the bottom half of the inning but struck out two to nail down another postseason save.
Realmuto had another big hit to score two earlier in the game and finished with three RBIs. Alec Bohm had two and Nick Castellanos one.
Philadelphia’s manager, Rob Thomson, didn’t waste time going to his big arms in the bullpen. Jose Alvarado came in in the fifth; Zach Eflin entered in the sixth and Ranger Suarez, the projected Game 3 starter, even threw 11 pitches in relief in the eighth.
But Alvarado only needed seven pitches. And Eflin threw 20 so he should also be available tonight. Seranthony Dominguez threw 24 but you can bet on him entering a close game again tonight, too.
Zack Wheeler has started four games in this his first career postseason. The Phillies are 3–1 in those four games and Wheeler has given up 10 hits and five earned runs in 25 innings (1.78 ERA). He has three walks, compared to 25 strikeouts.
Previously in this postseason, Thomson has kept Wheeler’s pitch count relatively low. Wheeler still gets fairly deep into the game but he should be well-rested for this spot and Thomas may push him just a little more because this is the World Series and the Phillies need the innings with a long series ahead.
Houston Astros
Loads of people were talking about Dusty Baker going into this series and how he has the most wins of any manager without a World Series.
They are talking about him after Game 1 and his decision to let Justin Verlander finish the fifth inning after giving back Houston’s 5–0 lead.
It’s a shaky start to the series for Baker and the Astros, who got very little at the plate from everyone besides Kyle Tucker on Friday night.
Bryan Abreu threw 32 pitches, which may just be too many for Baker to go back to him in Game 2. Fortunately for Houston, it has the depth to make up for that. No one else threw anything close to that number out of relief in Game 1.
Framber Valdez started Game 2 of the Division Series, the Championship Series, and now the World Series.
He didn’t throw his best against Seattle but did what he does regularly, which is battle through and help the Astros win while putting up some good numbers — 5.2 innings, two earned runs.
He was dominant the last time out against the Yankees — no runs and no walks while striking out nine over seven innings.
It was his first postseason start without allowing a run in ten tries.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Houston Astros MLB Prediction:
Houston may have just lost its first game of the postseason on Friday but it was in some perilous spots against Seattle, remember.
The ‘Stros have a way of finding the big play when they need it and I expect them to do that again in this game.
Philly will have the Astros on the ropes but with in a desperate spot, Houston will find a way to win a close game.
