MLB Baseball Gambling Total: O/U: 9
The Phillies will be on the road to start a series with the Diamondbacks on Monday evening.
Ranger Suarez and Madison Bumgarner are the opposing hurlers in this one.
Philadelphia is a big favorite in this one which makes a lot of sense. The total opened at 9 and I have not seen a lot of movement from that number.
Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies have been playing some good baseball of late as they are 7-3 in their last 10 games, but they were unable to complete the sweep of the Pirates on Sunday with a 5-0 loss.
It was a game where they really had an opportunity to take down an inferior ball club, but they never were able to get into a groove and Pittsburgh proved to be the better team on that day which came to the surprise of some people.
As we have seen for a big chunk of this season, the offense for Philadelphia has been quite strong, but the bats went absolutely quiet in the finale which has not exactly been a common occurrence for them this season.
I get that Roansy Contreras has the potential to be a very good pitcher in the MLB, but he is far from a refined arm, and given who the Phils have in their order, they should have been able to do more against him, and the bullpen which was also impressive for the Buckos.
It was not the best start on Sunday for Noah Syndergaard who allowed nine hits and five earned runs over 5.2 innings of work.
There were times when the right-hander looked effective out there, but there were also times when his opponent took some good hacks off of him which he will look to correct in his next outing.
After dropping their last one, the Phillies will look to get right back on track when they take on the D-Backs. The team they are facing off with has been pesky this season, but it is a very winnable series for this group.
Starting off the series on the mound is Ranger Suarez and he has put forth a solid season to this point. Earlier on in the year, there were some shaky points and even some times where folks thought he would get taken out of the rotation, but he has been much more reliable for this club.
Arizona Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks picked up the 3-2 win on Sunday and were able to complete the sweep over the Chicago White Sox which is something they will look to build off of.
I get that the Sox have dealt with a ton of problems on their own and are not some great team, but they are still more talented than Arizona and the fact that they swept them is not what most had in mind.
The first two games of their last series were not all that close and featured a lot of offense, but that was not the case on Sunday as they were able to get the victory with strong pitching and just enough offense.
Starter Zach Davies fired 5.2 innings while allowing six hits and two earned runs. He also walked two men and struck out five.
When the righty was taken out, Kevin Ginkel, Noe Ramirez, and Ian Kennedy combined to go 3.1 innings and allowed just one hit and no earned runs.
As far as the offense was concerned, Stone Garrett hit his first homer in the big leagues while Sergio Alcantara also went deep and Jake McCarthy doubled in the ninth inning to tie up the game.
Arizona was not able to do a ton off of Dylan Cease who allowed just two runs, but when the game got into the hands of the bullpen, they did what they had to do against Kendall Graveman.
Madison Bumgarner will get the ball in the opener and he is going to have the challenge of facing a very dangerous lineup a day after they got shut out. If he is not mixing locations and speeds while he is out there, it could be an awfully long day for the lefty.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Phillies are 4-0 in their last 4 after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game.
- The Phillies are 7-1 in their last 8 games vs. a left-handed starter.
- The Diamondbacks are 3-7 in their last 10 when their opponent allows 5 runs or more in their previous game.
- The Diamondbacks are 0-4 in their last vs. the NL East.
Philadelphia Phillies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks MLB Prediction:
The offense for the Phillies went cold in their last game, but this game is a good opportunity for them to be better in that category against a very hittable starter.
With Suarez on the bump, I feel he can be effective, but it might not always be smooth sailing for him. I could see the Snakes getting at least a few off of him.
Philadelphia is just the more talented team and I do trust them more as the game gets into the late innings, but I do not see this as a one-sided contest.
Arizona on the Runline is my play here.
