Oakland Athletics
A trio of Oakland pitchers held Texas to five hits (four of which came from the 7-8-9 hitters) but didn’t get enough from the offense in a 3–1 loss, setting up a rubber match on Sunday.
Adrian Sampson continued his emergence as another dependable starter next to Mike Minor and, if you will, Lance Lynn. He went the distance and gave up just four hits and a run.

Marcus Semien has been an above-average shortstop for a few seasons now but he’s taken another step forward this season, in which he has played every game and posted a 115 OPS+, the first triple-digit mark of his career, if it holds. He leads American League shortstops in WAR and could be in the mix for an all-star nod, though he’ll have to beat out some bigger names.
Tampa Bay Rays
Tampa won the opener at Fenway Park on Friday and split a Saturday doubleheader. Blake Snell will throw on Sunday, looking to help his team to three out of four against the Sox.
It hasn’t been New York’s best week, meanwhile. The Rays enter Sunday tied with the Yankees atop the AL East. Joey Wendle and Matt Duffy may not be Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton but both are also expected to return sometime this month, which could be the first time Tampa Bay’s entire infield is healthy this season.

Of course, that could make Tampa Bay too deep. The Rays already have Brandon Lowe at second and Yandy Diaz at third. As long as Kevin Cash can manage to get everybody at-bats, the extra bodies should be an advantage, especially down the stretch.
