The A’s may have lost on Wednesday night but things are still looking up for them, despite a missed opportunity.
Oakland led, 4–3, in the sixth but Tanner Roark couldn’t hold the lead in his last inning on the bump. Blake Treinen gave the game away in the bottom half of the seventh and KC held on, 6–4.

Oakland gets one more game in Kansas City on Thursday, when it goes for three out of four. Then, it begins this series in New York, one of the last tough matchups remaining on the schedule.
The A’s are two losses clear of Tampa Bay and just on Cleveland’s heels in the Wild Card. The Indians looked like the favorite but Jose Ramirez’s injury has changed things a bit.

New York Yankees
The last time the A’s were in the Bronx was in last year’s Wild Card game, when Liam Hendriks drew the job of opener and had a rough first inning that Oakland could never quite recover from.
Oakland is just hoping to be back in such a situation. New York, however, will coast right on through to the ALDS and is neck-and-neck with Houston for the best record in the AL at the moment.
In fact, it’s right there with Houston and Los Angeles for the best record in all of baseball.
CC Sabathia can start a game like this, no problem. He’ll eat inning and give his team a chance to win. What will his role be in the postseason, though?
Yankee fans just won’t be willing to see this team go down with someone like Sabathia on the hill, giving up four runs in five innings.
