The Athletics and Royals will be finishing off their series on Sunday, June 26th.
Kansas City is currently a big favorite at home with the total set at 8.5.
James Kaprielian will be opposed by Brady Singer in this one.
Oakland Athletics
There has not been a whole lot of positivity associated with the A’s this season. Simply put, they have been pretty dreadful and it does not look like it will be getting any better.
Realistically, it was understood this was not going to be a competitive team in 2022. With that said, fans were hoping they would at least show them some glimpses of being good, but that really has not happened.
When some teams are in rebuild mode, there are times when you feel like they are headed in the right direction, but that is not the case here. Frankly, I am not sure if they have any direction at the moment.
Oakland is a team right now that just does not have a lot of talent. Because they are not a big market team, it is not likely that they are going to go out there and spend a lot of money to bring in better players.
They are really going to have to hope that the players in their pipeline can develop and contribute to the league, but as we know, that is a toss-up.
So far, this crew has split the first two games with the Royals and they will look to win the series on Sunday. Kansas City is a team they can beat, but it certainly is not a guarantee.
In the 9-7 win on Saturday, Jared Koenig went 4.2 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. The bullpen did make it interesting, but they were still able to get the victory.
Getting the ball in the finale is James Kaprielian and boy, he has not been good at all this season. The right-hander is currently 0-5 with an ERA of 5.98.
Kansas City Royals
For as critical as I was about the A’s, the same could be said for the Royals. They also have not been anything special in this campaign.
At the present time, this is a team that is not relevant at all. They are a total bottom feeder in the AL and it does not look like they are headed anywhere.
As I look at their team, there is not a lot they do well. That is never something a team wants to hear about themselves, but it is the reality.
The pitching has really struggled in terms of pen and rotation and the offense has been below average at best. When those are combined, it is hard to think a team is going to win a lot of games.
Despite Kansas City not playing well at all this year, one thing that has been very clear is how weak the division is. With a record of 24-46, they are 12.5 games out of first place. If that were a lot of other divisions, they would be totally buried in the basement by a lot more games than that.
The Royals are not a great team, but this final game of the series is one they should be winning. It would be a bad look to drop the series to Oakland.
Brad Keller went 3.2 innings, allowed 8 hits, and gave up 4 runs in the loss on Saturday. That is not what they wanted from him and the bullpen did not do any better, as they allowed 4 earned runs.
Brady Singer gets the ball here and he has been up and down this season. He has shown the ability to pitch well at times this year, but it has not happened with enough regularity for him to be totally trustworthy.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Athletics are 3-8 in their last 11 road games.
- The Athletics are 7-19 in their last 26 games following a win.
- The Royals are 6-2 in their last 8 games.
- The Royals are 8-18 in their last 26 home games.
Oakland Athletics vs. Kansas City Royals MLB Prediction:
Oakland will be in for a challenge here, but I still do not see this being a game where they are totally overmatched. It would not shock me if it is close when all is said and done.
Kaprielian is a guy who has been very hard to trust this season. With him on the mound, the A’s better hope they have their bats going.
Although Singer is the better hurler, it is not as if he has been great this year. I could see him getting a hit a little bit and the same goes for the pen.
In a spot like this, the runs are too many for me to lay with KC.
