Oakland Athletics
Oakland beat Boston again on Thursday to conclude the four-game series by winning thrice, this time by a score of 7–3. Stephen Piscotty had the big game with four hits and five RBIs. He was in on both of Oakland’s three-run innings, first in the third and then the fourth to erase an early deficit.

Boston had 10 hits to Oakland’s 13 but Brett Anderson did a good job to scatter them, while Boston’s pitching gave up the big hit. Anderson went into the sixth and gave up eight hits but just three runs to earn his second win. The bullpen shutout the Sox the rest of the way.
Game one of this opening series between the A’s and Astros is on Thursday, which is the home opener for Houston. Friday’s starter, Aaron Brooks, was a rookie in 2015, when he pitched 55 innings for the Royals and Athletics.
He threw just two big league innings between then and the start of this season but he sure looked good at age 29 against Boston, giving up just two hits and no runs in six innings. It looks like the A’s have done it again and either found, developed, or a little of both, a diamond in the rough.
Houston Astros
This will be Wade Miley’s first start at Minute Maid Park as an Astro. He went six innings and gave up three runs last weekend in Tampa Bay, much like he did last season for Milwaukee.
Miley was as consistent as they come a year ago, which earned him a spot in Houston’s rotation, essentially replacing Dallas Keuchel. His start on Sunday wasn’t good enough to beat Tampa Bay but once the Astros start raking, he could win a bunch of games.

The Astros got Thursday off to prep for these four. If there’s any time to like Houston against the A’s, it could be in this spot but I just have a hard time getting behind a team that is so overpriced in a matchup like this one. Oakland is still the shrewder side.
