Despite an ERA over 5 the A’s have won three of Aaron Brooks’ five starts this season. His first and best start of the season was against Boston – 6IP, 0ER just 2 hits allowed. The Oakland bullpen has been OK this season even if its most veteran members have struggled. They will need them for this series where they are likely to go through a lot of pitchers.
Boston Red Sox
Boston is still nowhere near where it wants to be this season. The pitching has been bad and an offense that should be in the top two or three of the league is nowhere near. As of this writing third baseman Rafael Devers has yet to hit a homer and he was supposed to be a breakthrough guy this season. JD Martinez has been good but is struggling with back spasms.

Rick Porcello has been a big part of a starting rotation that has been bad this season. His ERA is over 7 and he has not had one start this season where he did not yield less than a hit per inning. His walk rate is way up which may be the most concerning number right now. Matt Barnes has been dominant out of the bullpen as they try and figure out how to manage that group.
