Baseball is finally here and it is hard to imagine a better game to kick off the season than the defending champs against the big bad Yankees. Let the games begin.

New York Yankees
Even in the shortened season the Yankees are going to be very formidable, perhaps even more so than expected given that they used the time to get some players healthy.
Cole was simply awesome for the Astros last season. He probably should have won the AL Cy Young. He now gets to prove he was worth all that money.
Cole might be the best starter in the league but sometimes transitions can be tough. If he falters at all he is backed by a lineup that can mash with any in the Majors. Nobody scored more runs last season and there is no reason to expect much dropoff.
In fact, they might be better if they get more from Giancarlo Stanton this season.
Washington Nationals
Kudos to the Nats for breaking through last season and taking the World Series. It was more of a relief than a triumph though, perhaps.
Repeating is going to be difficult even though they probably have the best 1,2,3 starters in baseball. Scherzer is awesome and I am not expecting much rust.
Last year Juan Soto exploded. The talent is all there but this is still a very young player. If he takes a step back at all they might struggle to score with Anthony Rendon now in L.A.
There is a lot to like about the Nats chances but they are probably a little downgraded from a year ago.
