The Yankees and Blue Jays will be starting a series north of the border on Monday at 7:07 PM ET.
Jordan Montgomery is going up against Ross stripling in this tilt.
New York is laying a decent price on the road here and the total is set at 8.5.
New York Yankees
The Yankees have been an awfully impressive baseball team this year. There is no question they are one of the better teams in the sport and they will look to keep on proving that when they face off with their divisional rival in this big series.
As is the case every season, New York had extremely high expectations for their club in 2022 but that did not mean certain people were not skeptical. There was a lot of chatter that they were not constructed the right way and the front office/ownership was taking the cheap way out.
If this team is flawed like some said they were, we will find that out in the postseason. With that said, they will likely have a very strong regular season and look to get further than they have been getting the last multiple seasons.
This team might not be the vintage Yankees one that a lot of people think of but they still have plenty of players that are more than capable on it. Their lineup is powerful and balanced, their starting pitching has been solid for the most part, and they have been tremendous in the bullpen.
This series with Toronto will be a big test for them but it is one they are embracing. New York feels they are the team to beat the East and would love to put that on display when they square off this team this week.
This club swept the Royals over the weekend in three games and they won the last game of the series by a score of 6-4. They just showed they were too much for a bad Kansas City team to handle which is what they went there to do.
Luis Severino went 5 innings and allowed 3 earned runs on Sunday. He has not been great this season but he has given his team a chance to win on multiple occasions.
Jordan Montgomery will get the start on Monday evening and he once again has not gotten all that much run support. He comes into this start with a record of 0-1 and an ERA of 2.70.
Toronto Blue Jays
Similar to the Yankees, the Blue Jays have also started off their year quite strong. It should be fun to watch these two teams battle it out all season long for the AL East crown.
The success of this team in the early going is not very surprising at all. A lot of folks were very high on them and they were the favorite to win their division.
As you look at their roster, they certainly have the pieces to be a very good team but I am not sold on them being a true World Series contender yet.
Yes, their offense is excellent and they can mash the ball with anyone, but I still feel their pitching is vulnerable. I would say they have a solid rotation but not a great one, particularly toward the end of it, and their bullpen can be hit or miss.
After losing game 1 on Friday, Toronto won the next two from the Astros and took the series. In their most recent game on Sunday, they beat Houston by a score of 3-2.
Kevin Gausman was once again excellent on Sunday as he went 7 innings, allowed 2 earned runs, and struck out 10 batters. He has been a huge addition to this staff and is doing just what they brought him in to do.
Ross Stripling will look to keep his team rolling in game 1 as they host the Yankees. He does not have a decision yet and holds an ERA of 3.60.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Yankees are 5-11 in their last 16 road games vs. a right-handed starter.
- The Yankees are 7-3 in their last 10 games on astroturf.
- The Blue Jays are 5-0 in their last 5 home games vs. a left-handed starter.
- The Blue Jays are 6-1 in their last 7 Monday games.
New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays MLB Prediction:
This is a matchup between two AL heavyweights. It should make for a very good series.
To me, Toronto is the better team but that does not mean this game will be an easy one for them. Given how the Yankees have been playing and who they have on their team, I would expect them to be competitive in this one.
In this spot, I just cannot trust laying the runs with the Yankees here. For as good as they have been, that is just too much for me in a spot like this.
I like the Blue Jays getting the runs at home here.
