New York Yankees
The Yankees welcomed the Royals to the Stadium for four this weekend but didn’t get off to a good start against a team that could rival Baltimore for being the worst in the American League this season.
The Royals won the first game behind Homer Bailey but New York cleaned up the last three, capped by a 7–6 extra-inning win on Sunday. James Paxton continued his dominance with six shutout innings that included a dozen strikeouts but didn’t get the win.

Chad Green and Adam Ottavino each gave up three runs in a six-run eighth inning for Kansas City. Austin Romine tied the game in the bottom of the eighth with a single and then won it in the tenth with another RBI single.
The Yankees head out West for four in Anaheim, three in San Fran, and then two in Arizona. They will be, of course, without Aaron Judge, who just hit the Injured List with an oblique strain that could have him out for a while, though a hard timetable hasn’t yet been determined.
Los Angeles Angels
Anaheim lost its seventh game in a row on Sunday, 6–5 to the Mariners. Seattle was struggling before it came into Angel Stadium and swept four in a row.
Trevor Cahill didn’t even make it through the fifth inning and Mike Trout went 0-for-4 in the loss. It was the first win of the season for Seattle’s rookie from Japan, Yusei Kikuchi.

The Angels struggles come at a time when Albert Pujols is actually producing, not to the level in which the front office pays him, but at least above average. He’s posted an OPS+ just over 110 in the first three weeks of April.
But the roster is just so thin and it hasn’t made any improvements over the recent years because the front office keeps trying to solve things with quick fixes, rather than tear out the shaky foundation and start anew.
At least Shohei Ohtani should return within the next few weeks. He hit a monster home run in batting practice before Sunday’s game and has been going through on-field activities with the hope of returning before the month is out.
