New York Yankees
There is no question that the expectations are once again very high for this Yankees team in 2022. When you play in this city, that seems to be the case every season.
It is still very early on in the year, but the results have certainly been mixed for this group. They have yet to find a true groove yet and that has unquestionably gotten the media talking.
In the short campaign, they have picked up some nice wins over teams that will likely be in the mix when all is said and done, but they also have had some questionable losses.
One thing that has been put on display so far the pitching has been quite strong, but the offense has yet to really gel. The optimistic Yankees fan may feel that will get figured out as the season gets deeper, but there is no guarantee of that.
Before this series with the Tigers, New York dropped two games out of three against the Orioles. Simply put, that just cannot happen to a team like this.
The Bombers took game one of the series against Detroit on Tuesday by a score of 4-2. As I write, game 2 of that series is in progress.
Gerrit Cole did not last long at all in their win over the Tigers, but the bullpen really stepped up big for them. The only earned runs were allowed by Cole and the pen was on lockdown from the time they took over.
Jordan Montgomery will get the start in the series finale and will look to contain this Tigers offense. He is currently 0-0 with an ERA a little over 3.
Detroit Tigers
It is fair to say that things have not exactly started off the way the Tigers would have liked.
Of course, there is still a long way to go in the season and they can certainly get better, but there is that chance that things do not smooth out as we get deeper.
Going into the season, I did expect this team to play better than they have in past years based on some additions to their roster, but they still have a long way to go before they start playing up to their capability.
In terms of the AL Central, this is the team here that could best give the White Sox any resistance, but even that is a tall order. At the present time, Chicago is by and far the best team in that division and it would take a lot of work for someone to knock them down.
Coming into this game, Detroit has a record of 4-6, which puts them in 4th place in the Central. The only club that is below them at the moment is the Minnesota Twins.
Detroit took two games out of three from the Kansas City Royals before this series. It was nothing flashy, but they did what they had to do against a team that is not very good.
In the first game with the Yankees, a total of 8 pitchers were used for these guys and nobody went all that long. Tyler Alexander started the game and went just 1 inning and the bullpen took over from there.
Michael Pineda will be getting the start on Thursday in the early game. It will be interesting seeing him going up against one of his former teams. He last played for the Twins a season ago and will be making his season debut.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Yankees are 6-5 SU in their last 11 games.
- The Tigers are 4-6 SU in their last 10 games.
New York Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers MLB Prediction:
Even though he is not the ace of the staff, the Yankees should feel decent with Montgomery on the mound. When he is out there, he usually gives the team a chance.
I am not totally sure what to expect out of Pineda here, but I do feel there is reason to believe he can be solid against this lineup.
New York might win this game, but the 1.5 runs are too many for me to lay with them.
Give me Detroit getting runs at home here.
