Man oh man, have the Yankees been impressive this year. They are one helluva baseball team and seem like they are the best in the business right about now.
If you are a fan, it is hard not to like what you are seeing from this group on a daily basis. Of course, people will always be critical but there are not too many holes to point to with this club right now.
New York just seems to have a very good approach no matter what opponent they take on. They have beaten a mixture of good and bad teams but the way they go about them has not changed.
To start off, they very often seem to get solid performances by their pitching. The starting pitching and rotation have been excellent this season and it has been a big strength of their ball club.
In terms of offense, they have also had a lot of production. With the people they have on that side of the field, it was only a matter of time before they started hitting as they should. When they are locked in, it is an awfully scary lineup.
The Bombers have taken the idea of winning your series to the next level. That is why you see them with the great record they have because they are not doing a lot of losing now. As we know, though, this organization only has one way to measure a truly successful season and that has not happened in more than a decade.
The Yankees continued their dominance over the Orioles in the first two games of the series and will look to do so again here. Nothing is new there.
In the 5-4 win on Tuesday, Jameson Taillon went 5 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. Now, they will turn to their ace in Gerrit Cole and he will look to keep up his strong pitching.
Baltimore Orioles
Unlike the Yankees, it has not been all positivity with the Orioles this season. They are once again struggling which has pretty much just become part of who they are.
Given the record they have now, I actually thought they would be even worse at this point in the year. The fact they have 14 wins seems like a lot given how bad they have been for so long now.
Unless something seriously changes, it is going to be more of the same for this team in 2022. It is very realistic to feel they are on the way to being a bottom feeder in the AL once again.
When you look at their roster and how they play, you do not need to be a detective to figure out why they are not playing well. They simply are devoid of a lot of high-end talent on the field and are just lacking in a lot of areas. Unless there is some fluke, that combo typically will lead to losses and a lot of them.
The main issue that has plagued Baltimore for years now is their pitching both in terms of starters and the pen. Simply put, they are not good at all in that department and teams like the Yankees will expose their biggest weakness.
I sound like a broken record but it is so true. You cannot realistically walk out there with the pitchers they have and expect to win a lot of games. If you do, then you must not know that big-league hitters are paid to hit mistakes.
Spenser Watkins went 4 innings and allowed 2 earned runs in their loss on Tuesday. Once the game went into the hand of the bullpens, you knew who was emerging victorious.
Jordan Lyles will get the ball here and he has his hands full. He has had mixed results against New York, as he pitched very well against them in Baltimore but got rocked in the Bronx.

New York is rolling right now and it is hard to imagine that stopping anytime soon. Given their lineup, they match up very well with Lyles and should be able to get to him and that dreadful bullpen.
Cole should be able to be sharp but I could see a few runs getting scored by Baltimore. Overall, I do not see this being a game where the offense is lacking.
