The Mets will be in San Francisco to take on the Giants in the finale of the series on Wednesday afternoon.
Thomas Szapucki and Jakob Junis are the slated starters in this one.
As of now, there are no odds listed for this ball game.
New York Mets
The Mets have been a very impressive team so far. If you are a fan of this team, it is hard not to like what you have seen from them.
Clearly, the expectations for this group were sky high but they have lived up to them thus far. The real measure of them living up to them will come with a World Series title but they are certainly on the right path.
Something that has been a calling card for them this season is consistency which has not always been a word to describe them before. In past seasons, they have done a lot of trading wins and losses but that has not been the case in 2022.
It seems like such a simple concept but the Mets truly have done a good job of winning their series. When a team does that, people should not be surprised when they have a good record.
Everyone was in agreement that New York was in good shape in terms of their start to the year but also recognized that could change if there were some injuries. I would still expect them to be a solid team but there is no question that the Scherzer injury is serious and may loom large for them.
After winning the opener with the Giants by a score of 13-3, the Mets dropped to San Francisco on Tuesday by a score of 13-12. If you lose the game and still score that many runs, there is a clear issue.
Chris Bassitt did not look very good in the loss in game 2. The right-hander went 4.1 innings and allowed 8 earned runs. I get that the Giants have a very good lineup but I was a bit surprised to see him get hit that hard.
New York will now turn to Thomas Szapucki. I am sure they did not plan on him starting a game toward the end of May when the season started but that is the reality of their team at the moment.
San Francisco Giants
I would say the Giants have played well this season. It has not been anything over-the-top but they have been a steady ball club.
A lot of people look at what they did in the regular season last year and expected that again for 2022. The reality is the previous season was truly magical and they could still be a good team this year while not achieving that kind of success.
Heading into the finale with the Mets, San Francisco holds a record of 23-19 and sits 3rd in the NL West. They trail both the Dodgers and the Padres.
There is no question that the Giants could get back into the mix of things in that division but they do have to start playing more consistently. Unless things change a lot, neither Los Angeles nor San Diego is going anywhere which is why it is important for this team to not slide too far down.
As I look at this team, I do feel they can be a threat in the NL but I do not feel they are the most talented. There are certainly teams that have more firepower than they do which could get catch up to them in the playoffs.
I am not saying the Giants are devoid of talent but if they beefed up their roster on both sides of the field, it might put them more in the contender category. I feel what they have now will get them to a certain point but not to the promised land.
The pitching certainly has not been very good for this team at all in the series with the Mets. After Logan Webb delivered a strong outing on Tuesday, the bullpen did not look good at all and nearly blew the game. Thankfully the offense for San Francisco came to play as well.
Jakob Junis gets the nod in this one and he has been impressive so far. The right-hander comes into the game with a 1-1 record and an ERA of 2.70.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Mets are 2-9 in their last 11 Wednesday games.
- The Mets are 13-6 in their last 19 road games.
- The Giants are 39-14 in their last 53 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game.
- The Giants are 43-19 in their last 62 games following a win.
New York Mets vs. San Francisco Giants MLB Prediction:
This is a game that the Giants have to take advantage of. Given the fact that New York is sending out a guy who has not started this season, they have to jump on him early.
I look for the San Francisco offense to get to Szapucki early and get into the pen but I also feel confident in Junis. There is no question he will have his hands full with this lineup but I feel he is up for the challenge.
It is hard to pick because at the moment, I am not sure what odds I am picking at. No matter where I have checked, the money line, run line, and total all have been blank.
I like San Francisco but not on the Moneyline if there is too much juice.
