The Mets and Dodgers will be capping off their series on Sunday afternoon.
Trevor Williams and Julio Urias are the opposing hurlers in this one.
Los Angeles is a considerable favorite at home with the total set at 8.5. It opened at 9 but has since gone down half a run.
New York Mets
The Mets have been excellent this season and look like one of the best teams in the sport. For the most part, it is hard to be all that critical of what they have done in the early part.
For the first time in some time, this club is an actual threat in the NL and the possibility of them making a deep run does not seem totally impossible.
We all knew heading into this season that the expectations for New York were off the charts and deservedly so. They went out there in the off-season and improved their squad in many key areas so it was understood that there would be a lot of hype with this group.
The only way that I could see their season being derailed is if they got hit with a lot of injuries to key players. Even with deGrom and Scherzer both sidelined, they have been able to get through.
Of course, those two guys are going to need to be healthy if they want to make a title run but they are not needed for their success right now. Unless the Mets take a total cliff dive, I would expect them to keep up this strong play and likely win their division.
With the Braves and Phillies both underperforming, the Mets have been the only team in the NL East to play consistently good ball. Unless Atlanta does something like they did a year ago, I do not feel New York will have any serious threats in the division for the rest of the season.
Los Angeles took the first two games of the series but the Mets did bounce back and get the 9-4 win on Saturday. They will have to take care of business on Sunday to at least be able to get the split.
Trevor Williams will be getting the ball here and he has not had the most success as a starter as a member of the Mets. New York will look for their offense to be rolling here because they cannot realistically have a ton of confidence that he will be able to be that effective.
LA Dodgers
Similar to the Mets, the Dodgers have also been quite impressive and look like one of the best teams in baseball.
This strong play for LA is more of the same for them. As a baseball fan, it just has been understood that they will play consistently well for the last many years.
Although there is clearly more good than bad with this group, that does not mean they were without their flaws. If they face a team that matches up well, things might not end up so great for LA.
Earlier in the week, the Dodgers got swept by the Pirates in what was an embarrassing series for them. I get that it is just one series but they did not look so great against them in Pittsburgh earlier.
Despite the top of the rotation being pretty strong for these guys, they do have some depth issues and that has been exposed before. That area of their game is going to have to get better as they get deeper into the season or they will not end up where they want.
The pitching was very strong for them in the first two games of the series with the Mets but that trend broke on Saturday.
Walker Buehler looked rough in the loss, as he went 2.1 innings and allowed 5 earned runs. The bullpen did not do a whole lot better when he left, which just led to a bad overall game for them.
Julio Urias will be getting the start here and despite not having a great record, he does hold an ERA of 2.89. If he is on his game, he should be able to keep this offense in check.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Mets are 18-38 in their last 56 games as a dog.
- The Mets are 5-1 in their last 6 games following a win.
- The Dodgers are 5-0 in their last 5 during game 4 of a series.
- The Dodgers are 27-9 in their last 36 games following a loss.
New York Mets vs. LA Dodgers MLB Prediction:
There is no question that the Dodgers played very badly in game 3 but I do look for a response here.
I already feel that LA is the better team and they do have a clear advantage in this one. With Urias on the mound, it is important that they do their job and win the series.
In this spot, I just have very little confidence in Williams. I look for the Dodgers to get to him and to that shaky bullpen.
Give me the Dodgers on the Runline.
