The Mets and Cubs will be finishing off their series on Sunday afternoon from Wrigley Field.
David Peterson and Adrian Sampson are the probables in this one.
New York is the favorite here, but it is not heavy. So far, I have not seen any movement on the total of 11.5.
New York Mets
The Mets keep on playing at a high level and continue to show they are one of the best teams in the NL at the moment.
Throughout the course of this season, I have not found too many things to complain about with how they have played. For the most part, I have really liked what they have put forward.
Even in that stretch of games where they were not playing their best and they did let the Braves get a lot closer, I never felt like the season was spiraling out of control for New York. It was understood they would get back on track and return to playing like themselves.
When I look at this team, it is very clear they are a balanced roster. Despite dealing with some key injuries, the pitching has been able to be effective and the offense has been a force all season long.
Clearly, getting deGrom back in the mix is going to be huge if they want to win the championship. I still feel they can have a strong regular season without him, but being able to go far in October is another story without one of the best arms in this sport.
Right before the All-Star break, the Mets knew they had a very good chance of sweeping a bad Cubs team, and they 3/4 of the way there. After taking the opener 8-0 on Friday, they were able to win two close ones on Saturday and will look to close it out on Sunday.
In a spot like this, I think the only ones that can beat New York are themselves. They are so much better than Chicago is and they just have to go out there and show it.
David Peterson will be getting the ball in this one and he has been solid this season. With some of the other pitchers on this staff, it was not totally understood what his role was going to be, but he has often done his job well this year, which is a positive sign for this organization.
Chicago Cubs
The Cubs have had a very rough year so far and they have a long way to go before they are relevant again.
At the present time, they just are not a very good team and they have a lot of work to do in order to improve this roster because they are not going to do a ton of winning with what they have.
It is not to say they do not have talented players on this roster, but there are not enough of them. There are certain times when it does not look like they are putting forth a major league team and that is very concerning.
Of course, it makes sense why they did not keep some of their core guys that led them to the title to a degree, but they had to know something like this would happen. When you remove players of that level, it is hard to all of a sudden expect a team to start winning consistently.
Chicago knew they would likely get a reality check in this series with the Mets and that has pretty much been the case through the first 3 contests.
Aside from the opener, I actually have not felt like New York has played their best ball, but they still have taken all of them. I think the series thus far has been more of a reflection on just how bad this Cubs team is.
So far in these games, they have scored 4 runs in 3 games. Teams should not be expecting to win games when that little runs are being scored.
Adrian Sampson will be getting the ball and he will have a tall task when facing this lineup. Since being on this club, he has not shown all that much.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Mets are 16-5 in their last 21 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.
- The Mets are 6-1 in their last 7 road games vs. a right-handed starter.
- The Cubs are 17-37 in their last 54 games vs. a left-handed starter.
- The Cubs are 11-27 in their last 38 games.
New York Mets vs. Chicago Cubs MLB Prediction:
The Mets have done exactly what they have had to do so far and I do not see them stopping in this one.
New York is just a much better team and they have been very good this season at beating the teams they should. If they are on their game, it will make it very hard for their opponent to beat them in this spot.
Given the two pitchers, I trust Peterson more than Sampon, and I also trust the bullpen for the Mets more.
I thought it would be more expensive, but the price for the Mets on the Moneyline is not that bad.
