Minnesota Twins
Toronto struck back on Saturday with a 12–3 win over the Twins to set up a rubber match for Sunday afternoon.
Five different Jays had multiple RBIs in the victory, including Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who homered for a third game in his last four.
Jose Berrios cruised with all the run support, striking out 13 and giving up just three hits and two runs in seven strong innings to pick up the win.
Dylan Bundy recorded just seven outs for Minnesota but the Twins didn’t tax any of their best bullpen arms. Three different relievers finished the rest of the blowout loss.
The left-hander Devin Smeltzer missed all of April and the start of May with an injury but he has come on to pitch well in his four starts thus far this season.
Smeltzer has gone 13.2 innings over his last two starts, giving up a total of eight hits and two earned runs while striking out ten to just one walk. He has not lost yet this season (2–0).
Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto will counter with ace Kevin Gausman, who went 4–2 in May and is coming off of back-to-back victories against the Cardinals and White Sox.
He has walked six batters all season but all six have come in his last five starts. He has just 29 strikeouts in that same span, which is a slow pace than he started out the season at.
Teoscar Hernandez, meanwhile, was dreadful in May. He returned from his oblique injury on May 7 with a .316 batting average (albeit in just six games on the season). He finished the month at .185, despite finishing May with at least one hit in five straight games.
He has continued that hitting streak in four games this month. He’s 8-for-13 in June so far after a 3-for-5 afternoon Saturday.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- Twins are 6-0 in their last 6 Sunday games.
- Blue Jays are 9-1 in their last 10 overall.
- Over is 6-1 in Twins last 7 games vs. a right-handed starter.
- Over is 5-0 in Blue Jays last 5 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game.
- Head to Head: Under is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings.
- Head to Head: Twins are 9-3 in the last 12 meetings in Toronto.
Minnesota Twins vs. Toronto Blue Jays MLB Prediction:
This game gets over a fair total. Both teams have been pretty good bets to go over the total of late but that’s just a lean, however.
I actually prefer the Blue Jays on the runline. They have won nine of ten because the bats are heating up (especially Guerrero and Hernandez) and the bullpen has been as good as the starters.
So I will back Toronto at home to get the series victory in style with a multiple run victory.
