Minnesota Twins
Overall, I have liked what I have seen from the Twins this season, but they do need to get back on track. It is not anything to panic over, but they have lost three in a row and they cannot let that continue much longer.
After what was a pretty bad season for them a year ago in which they massively underperformed, this season has been much better and they have played like the team people thought they would play like.
With the hitters that are in this lineup, the expectation is that this team would score plenty of runs and that has been the case. With the kind of hitters they have, they really should not feel like they are out of the game.
An area of concern for Minnesota is their pitching, though. Even when they do score a ton of runs, there is no guarantee they will get the win because the arms on this team have proven to be inconsistent and it is hard to trust them all that much.
A good example of that came in their 9-7 loss on Saturday, where they should have been able to get the win, but the pitching just did not perform all that well.
Devin Smeltzer went 3.1 innings and allowed 7 earned runs in their last loss. I get that he was facing a pretty good lineup, but that kind of performance is just not acceptable.
The bullpen was able to hold up for a while, but it eventually cracked, as Jhoan Duran allowed 2 earned runs in the 8th inning to give Texas the 9-7 win.
Dylan Bundy will be getting the ball in the finale and he has been up and down this season. He comes into the game with a 4-4 record and an ERA of 4.50.
Texas Rangers
For the first time in some time, the Rangers have a competitive baseball team and there is some optimism surrounding them.
They are not where they want to get yet and it is still going to take some time before they are a threat in the AL, but they are at least headed in the right direction, which they desperately needed.
In what is a loaded American League, I would still like to see Texas as a more balanced team. There is no question they have some clear strengths, but they also have some weaknesses and if they do not get addressed, I still see them as a middling club.
Similar to the Twins, I really like the offense for these guys, but the pitching is still a big question mark. It is not that they cannot do well in that area, but it is not at a consistent enough level for it to be a true strength of theirs.
If the Rangers were able to add some better arms to their staff and a few more bats, then I could see them being a legit force in the AL and maybe giving some more competition to the Astros. If not, they could be a nice team, but not a contender.
It was understood that this series with the Twins would not be an easy one, but so far, Texas has been able to play well in these games and will look for the sweep on Sunday. Being able to win all of these games would be a big statement for these guys and it would definitely shock some people.
The pitching has not been great in this series, but that has not mattered because the offense has really done a good job. Winning that type of way might is not sustainable for the whole season, but it has worked so far and it is hard to argue with what they have done.
Dane Dunning is next up in the rotation and I do feel he has pitched better than what the record might show. Look, he has not been some great arm, but I do not feel the 1-6 record is totally reflective of who he is based on some other numbers. With that said, he is going to have his hands full with this tough Minnesota offense.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Twins are 8-3 in their last 11 Sunday games.
- The Twins are 0-5 in their last 5 games with the total set at 7.0-8.5.
- The Rangers are 5-2 in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning record.
- The Rangers are 17-37 in their last 54 during game 3 of a series.
Minnesota Twins vs. Texas Rangers MLB Prediction:
So far, there has not been a shortage of offense in this series and it makes sense.
Neither side has pitched particularly well, which has led to some higher-scoring games.
Both pitchers in this spot are hittable and I think both teams will be able to do some damage off the opposing starter and get into the pen.
I like the over here.
