The Twins will continue their road trip as they hit the road to take on the Pardes starting on Friday evening.
Joe Ryan and Blake Snell are the opposing hurlers in this contest.
As of right now, San Diego is a small favorite at home with the total sitting at 7.5.
Minnesota Twins
After dropping both games against the Brewers earlier this week, things do not get any easier for the Twins when they face off with this tough Padres squad.
Something that was clear for this team in their 10-4 loss on Wednesday was the ineffectiveness of Chris Archer, who got hit very hard in the loss.
The right-hander only was able to go 3 innings while allowing 6 earned runs. Aside from not being the same guy he once was, he has also struggled with going deep into games this season and there is no question that is very concerning for this team headed forward.
Although Archer only gave up 3 hits, they were very costly and the Brewers made him pay, specifically when Rowdy Tellez took him deep in the 1st inning to make it a 3-0 lead. That was just the start of the offensive explosion for the home team.
Minnesota knew they were going to be in for a big challenge when facing Corbin Burnes and they really were not able to do a ton off of the talented righty.
Before the game got out of hand, they were able to respond in the third inning and tie the game at 3, but those were the only runs they got off of Brunes for the whole game. Even with those runs allowed, he still went six innings and punched out 11 hitters.
The Twins will have to rebound when they are on the West Coast for the weekend. Even though they have led the AL Central for what seems like the whole season, they only lead the Guardians by 2 games and the White Sox by 3 games.
Joe Ryan will be taking the mound in the first game of this series and this kid has been impressive so far. He comes into this game with a 7-3 record, a 2.89 ERA, and 3.80 FIP. There is no doubt he has been fortunate at times, but there is clearly a lot of talent with this guy and it has been hard to knock how he has started his MLB career.
San Diego Padres
The Padres will be heading back home after dropping two of three on the road against the Detroit Tigers earlier this week.
When facing a team who has played as poorly as their last opponent, they were really looking to win the series but were only able to get one win.
After splitting the first two games of the series, they lost the final contest on Wednesday by a score of 4-3. It was a game where they had chances to win but were unable to get the job done when it mattered most at the end.
Even in defeat, Yu Darvish was able to record another strong outing as he went seven innings while allowing two earned runs and 11 strikeouts. He was not facing a great offense, but he looked very sharp in the time he was out there.
For the second night in a row, Taylor Rogers was unable to get the job done as he went just 0.2 innings while giving up 3 hits and 2 earned runs.
Offensively, things were pretty quiet for the Friars in the last game. They were only able to record five hits in the ball game and did not do a whole lot against Tarik Skubal who was very impressive.
San Diego will get a chance to square off with another team from the AL Central and the level of competition will certainly be higher in this one. Of course, the Padres can play well in this set of games, but they are going to have to be a lot better than they were at Comerica Park.
Blake Snell will get the ball in this one and he has seen mixed results so far this year. He is coming off of a strong outing against the Mets and he will look to keep that going when he faces this tough lineup on Friday.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Twins are 7-20 in their last 27 interleague games vs. a left-handed starter.
- The Twins are 1-6 in their last 7 games following an off day.
- The Padres are 11-2 in their last 13 games on a Friday.
- The Padres are 20-9 in their last 29 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.
Minnesota Twins vs. San Diego Padres MLB Prediction:
Neither team looked all that great in their most recent series, but I have more confidence in the Padres to start this one off on a good foot.
It is clear that Snell is not back to his old self, but his last start against the Mets was encouraging. Although it will be tough against this lineup, I do feel he can have success against this Minnesota club.
There is a very good chance Ryan is effective, but I am not sold on this bullpen being able to do the job when called upon.
Padres as the small home favorite is the play for me.
