Minnesota Twins
The Twins came back to win the first game of this series on Thursday night, 2–1. Kyle Gibson threw 120 pitches and got through eight full innings, allowing just one run. After having a couple guys thrown out at the plate earlier in the game, the Twins finally broke through in the seventh inning and plated both their runs.
Minnesota is starting to play really well, right about the same time it turned it on and pushed into the playoffs last season. Paul Molitor’s team has won seven of its last 10, 16 of its last 20 and 22 of 30.

Jake Odorizzi has also been throwing better. He’s got a 2.63 ERA over his last five starts and has plenty of experience pitching at Fenway Park in his career as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays. He’s off of a six-inning, two-hit, one-run outing against Kansas City that the Twins lost in pathetic fashion.
Boston Red Sox
The offense continued to struggle in the second half on Thursday night. Mookie Betts got the only RBI for Boston on a fielder’s choice groundout. JD Martinez had one hit in four at-bats and struck out a couple of times, uncharacteristic for him.
But both guys have set such high expectations for themselves and have the team on such an unsustainably hot pace, that the crash will come. The club as a whole just has to make sure nothing gets away from it.

Rick Porcello beat Baltimore with six scoreless innings that last time out. He’s been terrific this season after being just so disappointing in 2017.

I’d like to have an idea of how Friday night’s game goes before I pull any strings with this one. The Twins are such big underdogs on Friday but I definitely like them, given the price. I’ve gotta think Boston wins at least one, probably two, in this series, though. I guess the point is, this game feels like +/- 130ish and I’m sure it’ll be bigger than that. Porcello is going to have to earn a win if he’s to get it.
