Minnesota Twins
Things looked bleak for the Twins after they lost three in a row to Kansas City immediately following the break. But they swept the Blue Jays in Toronto and the Indians lost a couple times to Pittsburgh so the lead in the AL Central is just 7.5 games.
This game will be the second of four games at Fenway Park. Lance Lynn beat Boston in Minnesota about five weeks ago. He gave up one unearned run in five innings in that one.

Lynn has thrown 16 innings in his last three starts, giving up seven runs. At least he hasn’t had to come out of the game in the middle of an inning, something that was happening quite a bit early on.
Miguel Sano continues to work his way back through the minor leagues from all his problems this season. He won’t be back anytime too soon but if the Twins can chip away at this lead and get their star bat back by September, they’ll have a shot. Of course, it’s still an uphill climb.
Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox got up 5–0 early in Baltimore before the rain came and washed out what looked like was going to be another easy win for the Red Sox. So they will have to settle for a split with the Orioles and a future make-up game to come.
The front office didn’t postpone making a deal for Nathan Eovaldi of the Rays. The Red Sox sent away a top prospect in Jalen Beeks for what will likely amount to a two-month rental in Eovaldi.

He has been good with Tampa Bay this season but it has to be an awfully good return for Tampa Bay, which picked Eovaldi up off the scrap heap, got some good innings out of him and then flipped him for a top-20 prospect in baseball.
Boston adds another arm to the mix around Chris Sale, who will start this game. He’s been nearly unhittable in July.
