MLB Baseball Gambling Total: O/U: 8
The Brewers and the Cardinals will be wrapping up their series on Sunday afternoon from Busch Stadium.
Aaron Ashby will be opposed by Miles Mikolas in this one.
St. Louis is the favorite in this spot, but it is nothing all that heavy. The total opened at 7.5 and is now up to 8.
Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers did not start off the series how they would have liked, but they were able to respond and get the 3-2 win on Saturday.
They really were not able to do all that much on offense, but the pitching was very strong against a tough lineup.
Corbin Burnes started it off and he went 7 innings and allowed just one earned run on four hits with six strikeouts. It was pretty clear that he was in a rhythm out there and his opponent did not have a ton of answers for him.
The bullpen for Milwaukee has been a strength this season and that unit was once again sharp last time out as Taylor Rogers, Devin Williams, and Matt Bush combined to go three innings and they did not allow an earned run.
Offensively, the Brewers were not able to do a ton against Adam Wainwright, but that did not matter in the end. When the game went into extra innings, it was clear who had the advantage.
With this victory, Milwaukee now trails the Cardinals by just half a game in the NL Central. Those two teams have been fighting it out for the division all season long and that will likely keep up for the remainder of the year.
When a team gets just four hits, it is not very often they get the win, but this team figured out how to do it. They will look to get some more offense when they have to face off with Miles Mikolas on Sunday.
In the finale, Aaron Ashby will be getting the start and he has struggled at times, but it has been clear he is better than the 2-10 record. I feel he is a solid arm in their rotation even if the immediate numbers do not show it.
St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals had a chance to win the second game of the series, but it was not enough, in the end, to take down their divisional rival.
They did score a run in the 7th inning to make it 1-0, but that did not last long as it very quickly became a tie ball game. When the game went into extras, they did score a run but still fell a run short.
There is no question that runs were at a premium last time out which did makes sense given the two pitchers that started. Still, if a team allows three runs they should feel good with their chances, but it does not always work out that way.
I still feel they should have been able to do more damage on that side of the field, but it is hard for me to be all that critical of the pitching who I thought did a very good job.
Adam Wainwright tossed a complete game as he allowed three hits, one earned run, and struck out eight batters. With those kinds of numbers, he should have been able to get the win, but the Brewers had different ideas.
In the 8th inning, he did make a mistake to Luis Urias who took him deep to tie it up. Given how well he pitched, he did not make a ton of mistakes out there, but that was the one that really stood out.
St. Louis will look to bounce back after this frustrating loss and take care of business on Sunday. If they are able to do that, they would certainly take it given the kind of team they are facing.
Miles Mikolas will be on the mound on Sunday and he will look to be much better than what he was last time out when he got totally smoked by the Rockies. It is not as if he is a guy that gets hit that hard all that often, but boy oh boy, was he bad in that one.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Brewers are 2-8 in their last 10 vs. the AL Central.
- The Brewers are 1-7 in their last 8 during game 3 of a series.
- The Cardinals are 9-1 in their last 10 home games.
- The Cardinals are 5-1 in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning record.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. St. Louis Cardinals MLB Prediction:
The first couple of games of this series have been close ones and I see that once again happening on Sunday.
Despite him getting rocked last time out, I still mostly like what Mikolas has done this season and I do feel he can bounce back.
Ashby has been solid this season, but he has not always gotten the best support and even if he pitches well here, I am not sold on it resulting in a win for his team.
Give me the Cardinals as the favorite at home.
