The Brewers will be in St. Louis to take on the Cardinals on Saturday, May 28th.
Adrian Houser and Matthew Liberatore are the starters in this one.
Milwaukee is a short favorite on the road with the total sitting at 8.5.
Milwaukee Brewers
So far, it has been a strong start to the season for the Brewers. They have played a very good brand of baseball.
Even though they did not go as far into the playoffs as they would have liked a season ago, there was still plenty of optimism surrounding this team for 2022. A lot of people expected them to be right back in the mix for this season.
There is no question that they have a talented group but it certainly is not on the same level as some of the top teams in the NL. Until they go out there and acquire some bigger names, I do not see them getting over that hump which is concerning.
When it comes to the pitching, I have been very impressed by them on that side of the ball and it is hard not to be. They have one of the best rotations in baseball to go along with a strong bullpen.
The main area that I feel they need to improve in is their offense. I would say they are decent on that side of the ball but it is nothing special. Nobody says they have to be on the level of the Dodgers for offense but it would be nice to see them improve there.
Milwaukee has split the first two games with their divisional rival in St. Louis. After the Brew Crew won a close one on Thursday, they dropped 4-2 on Friday.
Brandon Woodruff went 4 innings and allowed 2 earned runs in their loss on Friday. He was mostly effective while he was out there but it would have been nice to see him give them more length.
The Brewers will now turn to Adrian Houser and he has been good despite not having the best record. He comes into this game with a record of 3-4 and an ERA of 2.98.
St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals have been a solid team thus far. It has not been anything fancy but that is not what they are known for.
Although a lot of people seemed to think it was a foregone conclusion that the Brewers would win the Central, St. Louis certainly had something to say about that. Of course, these head-to-head matchups with divisional rivals are so critical and that holds true for this series here.
Coming into this game, the Red Birds have a record of 25-20 and they trail Milwaukee by 3.5 games. Unless something crazy happens, it looks like it will be a two-team race in that division.
Although I think St. Louis can keep things close in that division during the season, I would still give the nod to the Brewers. I would actually be a bit surprised if they were to not win it.
I just feel Milwaukee is a better team and has more ways to beat people. Throughout the 162 game slate, I would give them the advantage.
Even with that, the Cards will certainly be able to make a statement if they were to win this series and take 3 of 4. Realistically, they would take a split but they would always want to do more than that.
In their victory on Friday, Dakota Hudson looked sharp and so did the pen. I liked the way they approached that offense of Milwaukee.
Matthew Liberatore will be starting this one and he certainly has not had a ton of experience. He does not have a record at the moment but owns an ERA of over 7.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Brewers are 5-1 in their last 6 games following a loss.
- The Brewers are 14-4 in their last 18 games vs. NL Central.
- The Cardinals are 1-4 in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % below .600.
- The Cardinals are 8-3 in their last 11 Saturday games.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. St. Louis Cardinals MLB Prediction:
There is no question that the Brewers had an off day on Friday but I feel they will be better in game 3. I do not see another flat game by them.
Houser may not get the attention that some other arms in the rotation get but he has been sharp. I look for him to keep that up here against a lineup he certainly can contain.
Although the sample size is not very high for Liberatore, I do not have a ton of faith in him being strong here. He is going to have a very tall order to keep the Brewers in check and I do not see it happening.
With the juice not being out of control, I will lay the $1.20 with Milwaukee.
