The Brewers and Giants will be battling on Saturday evening from Oracle Park.
Eric Lauer will be going against Alex Cobb in this one.
San Francisco is currently a short favorite at home with a total of 8. There has not been a lot of movement on either the side or total.
Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers have been a solid team all season and I have mostly liked what I have seen from them to this point.
Despite being a division leader at the moment, I still would not put them as one of the better squads in the NL. To me, they still have a little ways to go before they get there.
Right now, I think it is pretty clear the Mets and the Dodgers are the two best teams in the NL and then it is everyone else. That could all change, but that is how I see it for now.
For Milwaukee to be put in the category of upper-tier teams, I just feel they would have to add some more firepower to their roster. Despite having an impressive record, I do not view them as an overly talented club.
No matter who they do or do not add, this season is a very big one for the Brewers. Getting to the playoffs has not been their issue over the years, but being able to make that deep playoff run has. If they once again flop in October, then there could be some changes that have to be made.
After taking the opener on Thursday, they could not get the job done in the 8-5 loss on Friday. That was one of their more disappointing losses of the season because it was very avoidable.
Milwaukee had a chance to get the victory, but Josh Hader allowed 6 earned runs in the 9th inning. He is one of the best closers in the game, but that kind of outing is just not acceptable and he better hope it was just a rarity.
Eric Lauer gets the ball in this game and I have liked what I have seen from him so far. He comes into this game with a record of 6-3 and an ERA of 3.83.
San Francisco Giants
I was pretty high on the Giants heading into the season, but they continue to show they are just not that good of a team. Unless something really changes, I think what they have done so far is what they are going to be for the whole season.
To say that this team has been a disappointment thus far would not be an exaggeration. Being a team that has essentially traded wins and losses is not what they were expected to do in 2022.
There have been times when I gave these guys the benefit of the doubt and suggested they would eventually figure it out. Well, that ship has sailed and I have a hard time seeing them make all that much of their year.
San Francisco has shown the ability to play well in bursts, but the consistency has not been there so far. They have just been too up-and-down for them to be a team that can really be trusted when it matters the most.
The expectation going into the season is they would compete with the Dodgers for the NL West, but that could not be further from the truth. As we speak, LA has clear control of that division and leads their rival by 13 games.
Look, a wild card is still a very real and possible scenario, but I do not think it will mean a whole lot. I have just come to the conclusion that this season is a down year for this group and they would really surprise me if they ended up making serious noise.
Alex Wood went 4.2 innings and did not allow an earned run in the win on Friday. Things did get interesting after he left, but they were still able to get the job done.
Now, it is Alex Cobb who will be getting the ball and he needs to be better. He simply has not been all that great this season and that is going to have to change starting on Saturday.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Brewers are 9-3 in their last 12 road games.
- The Brewers are 6-1 in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning record.
- The Giants are 2-6 in their last 8 home games.
- The Giants are 1-4 in their last 5 games vs. the NL Central.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Francisco Giants MLB Prediction:
Milwaukee did not play a good last inning on Friday, but I do look for them to get back on track in this one.
At this point in the season, I just trust Milwaukee more and I think they are the better team. I do not see it being an easy one, but I like them to do enough against Cobb & co.
Lauer might not get a ton of attention on his staff, but he has been sharp this season and I do feel he can put forth another solid outing in this one.
Give me the Brewers as a road underdog.
