Milwaukee Brewers
After dropping two out of three to both the Cubs and Pirates at home with a day off in-between the series, the Brewers split two in Minnesota this week.
Josh Hader served up a walk-off, three-run home run to Jose Miranda on Wednesday afternoon in a 4–1 loss.
Miranda collected three hits to lead the Twins. Milwaukee scattered four hits and scored only on Jace Peterson’s solo home run.
Hader began the season with 19 straight scoreless appearances out of the bullpen but he’s struggled of late.
He has now allowed the opponent to score in four of his last five appearances and he’s taken the loss twice in that span.
Corbin Burnes has not lost in over a month. He’s 4–0 in his last five starts and pitched well enough to win in the one game he did not.
That was the last time out for the reigning Cy Young Award winner. He gave up three hits, a walk, and no runs in seven innings against the Cubs, striking out ten.
San Francisco Giants
The Giants followed up a 13–0 win over Arizona on Tuesday with a 4–3 victory in the rubber match Wednesday.
Six pitchers threw at least one inning and five of them kept the Diamondbacks off the scoreboard.
Camilo Doval notched his 13th save of the season with a scoreless ninth.
Four different Giants drove in a run. The middle of the lineup had two hits each: Brandon Belt, Thairo Estrada, and Mike Yastrzemski. Belt scored twice.
Carlos Rodon has had four days of rest since his last start on Saturday, though he has not been named the starter for this one yet.
He threw an 112-pitch complete game against the Padres, allowing three hits, two walks, and one run while striking out a dozen.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Francisco Giants MLB Prediction:
Burnes gets the best of Rodon in a spicy starting pitcher matchup. Both guys have sub-3.00 ERAs.
But Rodon threw the complete game the last time out and that may just be enough to hold him back from throwing his best in this one, which will be his final start before the All-Star Game, which he may well pitch in.
The Brewers win a low-scoring (though perhaps not low enough to stay under what will be a small total) game on the road.
