Milwaukee and Pittsburgh will be squaring off in the 2nd game of their series on Wednesday, April 27th.
Aaron Ashby will be opposed by Bryse Wilson in this one.
The Brewers are a good size favorite and the total is currently set at 7.5.
Milwaukee Brewers
It is hard to be all that critical with the way the Brewers have started off the season. They are playing the way a lot of people thought they would.
There is certainly reason to be optimistic if you are a fan of this team about the season they could have. They have the tools to make it far and now they have to put it together.
Clearly, pitching is their biggest strength just based on some of the names they have in that rotation and pen but the offense is also capable. It may not be on the same level as a team like the Dodgers but they can certainly put runs on the board at a good clip.
I feel like they are a team that could compete with anyone in the NL come playoff time but I am not sold on them winning a series with the top dogs. The Mets and the Dodgers would match up well with them and could potentially give them some issues.
Milwaukee started off this series with a 12-8 win on Tuesday. The style of the game might not have been how they drew it up but they will never complain about a victory.
A big 6th inning really sparked this team as they scored 6 runs in it. When you face the Pirates, you want to get to their bullpen and they did just that and had lots of success against them.
Brandon Woodruff went 4 innings, allowed 4 earned runs, and struck out 6 men in game 1. You are certainly used to him being more effective than that but I do not think that start will represent who he is for the majority of the season.
Aaron Ashby will be getting the nod in this one. Even though he has not recorded a win yet, he has not pitched poorly. He currently sits with an ERA of 3.18.
Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates have seen mixed results out of the gate. It has not been all bad, but they would like to be getting more consistent play.
Considering the direction this team is headed in, as a fan, I actually would not be too upset with an 8-9 record. Listen, it is nothing great, but it is very possible these guys could have started off the year a lot worse.
By and large, this team is not very talented. Sure, they have some players here and there, but it is definitely not on the level to compete for a pennant or a championship.
The division that they play is not what I would call great but there are still at least two teams that are undoubtedly better than them. Before they can get on the same level or surpass the Brewers or Cardinals, it is going to be very hard for them to win the Central.
A big flaw for this team that has become apparent over the last multiple seasons and also this year is their pitching. The guys that are in the rotation and the bullpen are really just not effective and we see that when they face a lineup that is even halfway decent.
Until they truly fix the pitching, it is not very realistic to expect this team to win a whole ton. Maybe they could get marginally better as the years go on but I do not see anything earthshattering happening in the future.
The poor pitching for the Buckos was once again put on display in the loss to the Brew Crew. Mitch Keller started the game and went 4.2 innings and allowed 4 earned runs. After he left, it only got worse as the bullpen got hit hard and allowed a ton of runs.
Bryse Wilson will get the tall order of containing this Milwaukee offense on Wednesday evening. He could use a good start right about now as he owns an ERA north of 6.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Brewers are 5-0 in their last 5 games against the NL Central.
- The Brewers are 10-2 in their last 12 Wednesday games.
- The Pirates are 4-1 in their last 5 home games.
- The Pirates are 23-54 in their last 77 games against the NL Central.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates MLB Prediction:
After a slugfest in the first game of the series, I once again expect some runs here. Maybe not a combined 20 runs, but still a decent amount.
At this point, I do not trust Wilson to do all that well against this Brewers offense. I could see him having some trouble.
Ashby should be able to have success against the Pirates but I would still expect Pittsburgh to score at least a few runs here.
I like the over of 7.5 runs here.
