Milwaukee Brewers
So far, I would say that it has been a pretty solid start for the Brewers in the 2022 season. I have liked what I have seen out of this group so far.
As far as their division goes, the Cardinals do present a threat to them, but I still feel this is the team to beat as far as the NL Central is concerned. If they are unable to do so, that is not a good look for them.
I believe that this club is a good team in the National League, but it is hard for me to put them in the elite category of a team like the Dodgers or Giants. They still have to show me they can get to that level before I can say they are there.
Earlier this week, they completed the sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Milwaukee did just what they had to do against one of the worst teams in baseball.
They last played on Wednesday and took care of the Pirates by a score of 4-2. The pitching was quite good for them in that series as they only allowed their opponent to score 5 runs in those games.
Brandon Woodruff looked very sharp in his last outing on Wednesday as he went 6 innings and struck out 9 batters. Granted, it was not against a very good lineup but it was still good to see him pitch like that.
Freddy Peralta will have the tall task of shutting down this Philadelphia lineup when he gets the ball on Friday. It is critical that he gets back into a groove because he is currently 0-1 with an ERA of 11.57.
Needless to say, the level of competition will be much stiffer for the Brewers in this one compared to the last series with the Pirates. It will certainly be a big test for both squads here.
Philadelphia Phillies
Boy, things have not exactly started off all that well for the Phillies this season. I know that it is early but you can only use that excuse for so long.
The expectations were as high for them this season as they have been in a very long time. Quite frankly, if they do not make a deep run in the postseason it will be considered a failure by the players and by the organization.
I definitely think this team has the pieces to be very competitive but there is no guarantee that it will all work out. It is one thing to have it on paper and it is a totally different one to go out there and execute.
There is no question that their offense is very skilled and they are going to score a ton of runs throughout the course of the year. The pitching, however, is a much different story and is not exactly a strength of theirs.
The Phils just lost two games out of three against the Colorado Rockies. If you want to be taken seriously, those are the things that simply cannot happen.
They did win the last game against Colorado by a score of 9-6. I have a feeling they are going to win quite a few of those high-scoring affairs this year.
Zach Eflin went 5.2 innings and allowed 4 earned runs in his last start against the Rockies. Although he did give up a lot of hits, he was able to give the team pretty good length.
Ranger Suarez will be called upon in game 1 of this series. Consistency is certainly an issue for him so it is hard to even predict what kind of performance he will have against the Brewers.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The total has gone under in 4 of Milwaukee’s last 5 games.
- The Brewers are 4-1 SU in their last 5 games.
- The total has gone over in 4 of Philadelphia’s last 6 games.
- The Phillies are 2-7 SU in their last 9 games.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Philadelphia Phillies MLB Prediction:
Although the Phillies are not playing all that well now, this is still a very good matchup between two talented teams.
This is no disrespect to Ranger Suarez, but it is pretty hard to have confidence laying the run line when he is on the bump. He is a nice little pitcher, but I feel much more confident with the Brewers here with Peralta on the hill.
Even if Philly were to get this win, I see Milwaukee keeping it very close and covering as the dog.
Give me the Crew getting the runs on the road.
