Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers have gotten off to a strong start this season. That really is not a big surprise to me and a lot of people.
This is a team that was certainly expected to do very well and for good reason. Given the kind of players that they have on both sides of the diamond, it is very realistic to expect that they should be a threat in the NL and win their division.
With that said, I still feel they have a ways to go before they reach the level of the Dodgers. What they have now would get them to a certain point but I still do not feel it would get them over the hump in the long run.
I am not saying the additions they need would have to be anything crazy but they are needed. I do not have too many issues with the current state of the pitching but I would like to see more firepower in that offense for them to be truly dangerous in that category.
The knock on this club for a while now has been their inability to reach that next level. They seem to have a strong regular season and get to a point but are still not able to get the job done. After a while, it gets to the point of if not now, when?
This series with Miami is one that will not be easy for them but it is one they should be able to do well in. The good teams figure out ways to get the job done in spots like these.
Milwaukee certainly has extra motivation to play well in this series here after they did not look so great in their last series with one of the worst teams in baseball, the Reds. In their last game, they allowed 14 runs to that team which had to have been a terrible feeling for the whole club.
After the pitching was a disaster on Wednesday, the Brew Crew will turn to their ace and one of the best arms in baseball, Corbin Burnes. Whenever he gets a start for this team, they should feel damn good with their chance of winning that day.
Miami Marlins
The Marlins are a team this season that has been a very up-and-down baseball team. You never truly know what to expect from them game to game.
Struggling to play consistently good ball is nothing new for this team. In fact, it is a theme that has been quite common with this group for a long time now and it would explain why they have not been all that relevant in some time.
Sure, they did make it to the playoffs in 2020 during the shortened year, but we all know a lot of that was smoke and mirrors. Their play that season certainly did not indicate that they would make it to the postseason if the regular amount of games were played.
I still think the days of this group being a playoff team every season and being a real force in the NL are a bit away. It seems simple but they still do not have the team needed to win at a high level yet.
Don’t get me wrong here, this team is not devoid of talent. Their rotation is a true strength of theirs and their lineup has true potential. It just is still too early for me to start singing their praise and saying they are going to win their division or compete for titles in the near future.
In order for them to get on the same level as the Dodgers, Mets, etc., they are going to have to acquire more top-end talent. What they have now is a good base but we know it is not nearly enough to compete with the top dogs.
This series with the Brewers is going to be a big test for Miami. If they can have success against them, then that is something they can build off of, but if they do not, then it will be a reality check for them and something they will learn from.
Pablo Lopez will get the ball in this outing and he has been excellent in 2022. He is 4-1 with an ERA of 1.25. It is hard to be all that critical of those marks.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Brewers are 4-1 in their last 5 after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game.
- The Brewers are 4-1 in their last 5 during game 1 of a series.
- The Marlins are 10-3 in their last 13 games as a home dog.
- The Marlins are 6-2 in their last 8 games following a win.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Miami Marlins MLB Prediction:
Given the two pitchers who are starting this ball game, this is the type of game that will draw a lot of attention.
Burnes is the better pitcher here but that does not mean that Lopez is nothing. He is more than capable and it would not shock me if this turned out to be a good duel.
Ultimately, I see Milwaukee doing enough to get the win but I feel the Fish will make this a close one. I cannot lay the runs in a matchup like this one.
Give me the Marlins at +1.5.
