The Brewers and Dodgers will begin a series from Dodger Stadium on Monday evening.
Eric Lauer will be opposed by Julio Urias in this game which could make for a good matchup.
As is often the case, Los Angeles is heavy chalk at home in this spot. So far, I have not seen any movement from the opening total of 8 runs.
Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers come into this game having dropped two of three against the Cubs and it is only going to be harder in this one.
I get that every team can have a bad day or series, but losing that series to Chicago was just not a good look for them especially given how important each and every game is for this team at this point in the season.
The pitching department was not effective enough in the first two games, but they were better in that area on Sunday with the 5-2 win over their divisional rival.
Brandon Woodruff fired 5.2 innings and allowed two earned runs while punching out five batters in their last win. They were really counting on him to get the job done and he did just that.
The offense certainly was not spectacular in the finale, but Keston Hiura stood out the most on that side of the field as he hit two home runs and drove in three runs. He might not be a guy a lot of people think of, but if he continues to perform, his name will keep on being put in the lineup.
Rowdy Tellez and Willy Adames also drove in a run apiece. Milwaukee was not able to do a ton against starter Justin Steele, but they were able to get into their bullpen and do the damage there.
The struggles for the Brewers have been pretty apparent and they now trail the Cardinals by five games for first place in the NL Central. Given the kind of situation they are currently in, having to face the best team in baseball on the road cannot make them too happy.
Eric Lauer will be on the bump in the opener and he just faced the Dodgers on August 17th where he went seven innings and allowed two earned runs with seven punchouts. This left-hander will hope to get more run support when he gets the ball on Monday.
LA Dodgers
The Dodgers keep on rolling as they were able to complete the sweep of the Marlins on Sunday and are now 7-3 in their last 10 games.
After splitting four games in their prior series, these guys did not waste any time doing some damage against the Fish and they really were able to assert their dominance.
Not many teams have been able to do it this season, but Los Angeles was really able to hit around Sandy Alcantara who allowed ten hits and six earned runs in just 3.2 innings of work. With the offense they have, I cannot say I am surprised they were able to get those results.
Another big storyline that came from the 10-3 win on Sunday was rookie Ryan Pepiot who went six innings and allowed two earned runs and four hits to go along with seven strikeouts. It is never an easy thing when you are facing off with a Cy-Young contender, but it clearly did not bother him.
In their series with Miami, a lot of the strengths of the Dodgers were put on display. They were able to get solid production with the bats and with the pitching which is what makes this team so dangerous. When they are really cranking like that, it is hard to find many clubs that can take them down.
In their last three games, they were able to outscore the Marlins by a 19-4 margin. Friday’s game was a close one, but there were never any questions in the remaining two.
There is no doubt things will be a little trickier for this team starting on Monday as they host the Brewers who did show some resistance against them a week ago. Still, LA is a much better team and should view this series as a very winnable one for them.
Julio Urias gets the nod in this one and he was impressive in his last start against Milwaukee. Despite not always going very deep into games, this lefty has pretty much been as advertised and is going to be a huge part of what they do in October.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Brewers are 2-8 in their last 10 road games.
- The Brewers are 0-4 in their last 4 games following a win.
- The Dodgers are 44-11 in their last 55 overall.
- The Dodgers are 41-12 in their last 53 home games vs. a team with a winning record.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. LA Dodgers MLB Prediction:
I know that the Dodgers have really been rolling, but I do not see this as a game where they coast to victory.
Urias is the better starter, but it is not as if Lauer is some guy that can be taken lightly. Both of these pitchers showed the ability to be effective against each other’s lineup and I can see that happening again in this one.
It would not shock me if the Dodgers ultimately got the job done, but I look for the Brewers to keep this thing close.
Give me the Brewers getting the runs on the road in this spot.
