Miami Marlins
The Marlins might be into a make or break section of their season. They are playing back to back series against first place teams Tampa and Atlanta. If they fold they might be irrelevant.
They might already be there. They did trade for Starling Marte at the deadline and he did hit a winning homer in his first game with the club but overall they are overmatched in the lineup.
No starter has been announced for Saturday but we know it won’t be ace Pablo Lopez. It looks like it could be Sandy Alcantara who was hit hard in his return to action after almost a month off.
Whoever it is is going to be in deep against Snell and one of the most efficient offenses in the game.
Alcantara was a nice find last year but his 2020 may be lost at this point.
Tampa Bay Rays
Tampa is in first place and looking to keep cruising this weekend at home against Miami. They never look like the best team on paper but that record speaks for itself.
The Rays took two of three at New York, distancing themselves a littler further from the Yankees in the process. It looks like they are going to take the division.
Blake Snell might never capture the magic he had a few seasons ago but on any given day he can dominate. The Miami lineup is not going to pose much threat.
He does not go deep into games most times though so he will have to be backed up by one of the best bullpens in the league.
